Mary Jane Loutsch was born 9/23/35 in Oyens, to Mike Loutsch and Clara Pletschette. She grew up and lived on their farm south of Oyens. She attended St Cathrines grade school, and the only sibling of eight to graduate from Union Consolidated High School in 1953. After graduation she moved to Sioux City with her sisters and started working for Wincharger/Zenith. Mary’s work history included Green Gables in Sioux City, Westmar College cafeteria in Le Mars, Harkers in Orange City for many years before transferring and eventually retiring from their Le Mars plant. She made many friends through the years working there. After retiring she worked part-time in housekeeping at K-Products /Staple in Orange City.
When Mary was not knitting or crocheting her many Afghans, she would be tending to their huge garden, canning, and planting her many flowerbeds. Lillys were her favorite. Mary was a great homemaker who loved to cook and bake for the holidays and birthdays. Grandkids said it was always ‘A Feast’ at Thanksgiving and looked forward to those gatherings. Her specialty was homemade bread and pies from scratch. She spent countless hours on a chair in the woods by the walnut tree cracking Walnuts on a log filling many quart jars then freezing them for baking later. When she was not in the kitchen, she enjoyed shopping with her sisters and nieces, going to garage sales and bowling on Friday night mixed league. Mary was a traveler, she went on countless trips and cruises with her sisters, nieces and nephews including, Branson, Black Hills, Puerto Vallarta Mexico, visiting her nieces Candice and in Texas and Cassandra in California as well as bus trips to various Casinos with the bank clubs. Mary’s last outing was spending Saturday night at Remsen Oktoberfest 2025, with her sister and nieces. She and Carol were dancing to Polka music which their family grew up on in Remsen with their Luxembourg and German heritage on Loutsch side. They knew almost everybody from their childhood days of growing up.
Her favorite trip was the Alaskan Cruise with the love of her life, Farrell (Bud) Marsh whom she met in Sioux City. They married Dec 16, 1961, in Luverne MN, making their first home in Sioux City. From this union they had four children: Candace, Gene, Ron (Buck) and Steve. In 1970 they moved to an acreage north of Brunsville, where they also raised chicken, ducks, geese, pigs and few calves. The ‘farm’ was not complete without horses, a dog and many cats. After Bud passed Dec 16th, 2012, on their 51st wedding anniversary, Mary moved to her condo in LeMars the spring of 2014. She treasured her local neighbors, Begnoche’s, Osterbuhrs’, Marienau’s and Lubben’s, especially in wintertime scooping out her long driveway with their huge equipment.
Mary was a member of The Catholic Daughters, American Legion Auxiliary-Le Mars and St James Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Mary and Bud would frequent the Brunsville Legion cutting up the dance floor every weekend or she would be square dancing on Sunday afternoons. Mary’s passion was playing cards, with Euchre and Pinochle being her favorite. If you could not find her at home, you would always find her at the Senior Center near daily, playing cards, Mahjong and other activities. A special heartfelt thanks to Linda Durr who valued Mary’s friendship, giving her rides to Senior Center when her eyesight was failing and could no longer drive. Linda graciously invited Mary to other events, whether listening to Old Time Music at Lally’s or going to Sioux City dances and being her dance partner. She loved that. She also enjoyed going for Saturday morning coffee. When she could not drive her scooter or the weather turned cold, she appreciated the ladies for picking her up even though one grumbled about it later to others. Times were challenging after moving to town. She was eternally grateful for Ron and granddaughter Holly, taking her to many appointments when Ron was unavailable. Mary lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend whose kindness touched everyone she met. Her days were filled with simple joys. Mary’s deep faith in God was her guiding light, giving her strength through life’s challenges and inspiring those around her. She embraced every moment. Her legacy of warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Survivors include her children, Candace Eades (Ed Clark) of Craig, IA and granddaughters Ashley (Josh Paugh) of Des Moines, Holly Eades and great grandkids Sincere & Korrah Eades of Craig and bonus granddaughters Brianna (Eades) VanRoekel of Washta and Becca Eades of Des Moines, Gene (Karla) Marsh of Bondurant, IA, Ronald Marsh of Le Mars, IA, Steve Marsh of Le Mars, IA and grandsons Weston Marsh (Briianna Haasken fiancé) and great grandson Jaxton and grandson Nathan Marsh (friend Saige Russell) all of Sioux City; Brother, Marvin (Joan) Loutsch of Le Mars, IA; Sisters: Marlene Pinney & Carol Shimitz both of Sioux City, IA; Sister-in-Law: Joyce Loutsch of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

We spent a lot of time at the Marsh's place. Mary was always very nice to us. Any time she saw my sister Annette she always called her 'Little Orphan Annie'. Good old memories for sure. My deepest sympathies. Ed

Cliff and I have known the Marsh’s for many years. Cliff and Bud bowled together and Cliff and I then bowled in a mixed league with them. In recent years we have enjoyed Mary at the Senior Center playing pinochle with her. We helped her see the cards when her eye sight got bad. She will be missed a great deal.
