MARY ANN POIRIER

We lost our dear, sweet Mom, Mary Ann Poirier, age 94, after a brief illness on December 14, 2022. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her San Dimas, CA, home, rosary in hand.

Mom was born on May 14, 1928 in Los Angeles, CA, to parents Edward and Elizabeth (Henning) Fitzsimmons. Mom had five older siblings and one younger; older brother Edward being her final surviving sibling. She graduated from Holy Family High School in 1946, and went right to work to help with the family finances as a Certified Comptometer Operator.

She met the love of her life, the late Herb Poirier after World War II and married in 1950. After short jobs in Tonopah, NV and Santa Maria CA, the family moved to their Valinda, CA home in 1955, with Mom then moved to San Dimas in 2004.

Mary Ann and Herb had seven children, four boys and three girls. Mom was predeceased by daughter Mary Catherine, husband Herb, and son Peter Edward. She is survived by Michael, (Janet), Joseph, Daniel, Eileen (Hanrahan) and Elizabeth. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, with two more due soon!

After Mom raised her children, she took a job working at JC Penney's for seven years, keeping us all in clothes! She also found she had a talent for painting, and enjoyed painting for over two decades. Several years she even painted her own Christmas cards! We cherish the personalized paintings of our pets and other golden memories.

Another of Mom's favorite things to do was go! Go on trips traveling both nationally and internationally to see family and friends or just the sights. Go to parties for family and dear friends. Go visiting. Go for a drive to be able to see the snow on the mountains after a cold rain at home. Just go!

Mom's faith was her key to being so happy all the time - rarely would you see her without her beaming smile. Her love for everyone – family, friends, neighbors, most everyone she met, is well known.

Mom will be remembered at her service on January 14, 2023, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights, CA. Rosary to start at 12:30pm with funeral mass to follow at 1:00pm. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Doctors Without Borders in Mom's memory.
