Mary Ruth Ryals (Brown), passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on September 14, 2025, at the age of 94. Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Cool Springs Cemetery with Brother Billy Shirley officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing.
Mary Ruth was born November 23, 1930, to Jim and Hattie Brown, and was a lifetime resident of Crenshaw County Alabama. She was a devout Christian and served as secretary and treasurer of Panola Baptist Church for many years.
She enjoyed patchwork and quilting, crossword puzzles, game shows, watching the hummingbirds, and southern cooking. No one’s Thanksgiving dressing will ever measure up to hers.
Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, AJ, sons Roger Dale and Gary Ray and grandson J. Bryon. She is survived by her eldest son Jerry Bryan, grandchildren; Kellie Currington (Johnny), Tifney Ryals, Kacy Ryals, and Adam Ryals (Mary). 4 great-grandchildren; Alexzander, Tabatha, Brooklyn, and Blake. 2 step great-grandchildren, Zach and Keely. Along with an honorary daughter; Debbie Yarborough. She adored her family, and they cherished her.
Sweet and kind are words often used to describe her, but those barely scratch the surface. Mary Ruth was a benevolent soul and touched the hearts of all those around her. To be in her presence was to know what unconditional love felt like. Her absence has left a void, and she will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Tina and Zane with Southern Care Hospice for all their care and compassion.

Mary Ruth was one of the kindest and loving people I have ever known. She always had a welcoming smile on her face. One of the special memories I have of her is at the dinner table. When AJ’s tea glass was empty, he would shake it and Mary Ruth would jump up from the table and refill it immediately. She was a true southern lady. May the Lord wrap his arms around her family and comfort them during this difficult time.

Nanny was the best mother in law ever. She was always so sweet and kind. She loved her family so much. She always told me she loved me and “come back every time you can.”
