MaryAnn Youngren Obituary

MaryAnn Youngren, of North Platte, passed away at Great Plains Health on October 22, 2025, at the age of 85.  She was born to Frank and Ethel (Halligan) McKain and the sister of Tom, Susan, and Rick, on August 17, 1940, in North Platte.

MaryAnn graduated with the class of 1958 from North Platte High School.  A year later, on April 4, 1959, she was united in marriage to Marshall Youngren in North Platte, where they made their home and raised their children, Gregory Marshall, and Marci Dawn.  MaryAnn utilized her trade school education and worked as a beautician in Denver before putting her talents to work as a skilled florist. The “Wood ‘n Doll “was a gift and porcelain doll store that she owned and operated for over 25 years.  Among the many talents that MaryAnn was gifted with, being an incredible seamstress was included.  She was a longtime and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte and involved in P.E.O.  MaryAnn had a group of close girlfriends that called themselves “the Floozies” that she held very near and dear to her heart.

Those remaining in MaryAnn’s immediate family include her children, Greg Youngren of Bertrand, and Marci Youngren of North Platte; brothers, Dr. Tom (Jim) McKain of Washington, D.C., Rick (Sue) McKain of North Platte; sister, Susan (Neal) Hoff of Hastings; 3 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; other family and friends.

MaryAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ethel; and husband, Marshall.

I have know Mary Ann since kindergarten in Washington School and in Junior and Senior High we were the 'Name Twins', often dating boys with the same name. We always had fun together at our many slumber parties and I always felt welcome in her home with her wonderful family. We were together last month at our Class of 58' Birthday Party as we all turned 85. It was so good to see her and we had a good visit. She was a dear friend.
