Matthew Alan Scott Obituary

Matthew Alan Scott of Lima, formerly of Harrod, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 4, 2026. He was born on December 11, 1972, in Lima, Ohio, to Steven and Ruth Scott, who preceded him in death.

Matt was a 1991 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School and High Point Joint Vocational School. He worked as a carpenter and took great pride in working with his hands. Matt enjoyed fishing, hunting, Indian relic hunting, spending time working outdoors, and listening to music. He was a kind and gentle soul who deeply loved his animals, especially his beloved cat, Wilma and his dog, Minnie. Matt was known for his friendliness, forgiving nature, and his ability to see the good in others. He was a simple person with a very kind heart who treated everyone he met with warmth and respect.

Matt met a very special woman in his life, Ann Veasly, who helped him rediscover purpose and loved him unconditionally. Together they spent many happy hours working around their home, listening to music, cooking, enjoying their cats, and simply sharing life. Matt’s family will always be deeply grateful for Ann’s love, encouragement, and the care she showed him.

Matt was also blessed to have a wonderful friend, Zeke Cobb, who was a strong and supportive presence in his life. Zeke showed Matt unconditional love and encouragement, who also helped him find purpose again, and provided him with many opportunities through odd jobs. They spent countless hours working together, and Zeke was always there to uplift and support Matt. Matt was very fond of Zeke, and his family is extremely grateful for the positive role he played in Matt’s life.

Matthew is survived by his sister, Jennifer Scott Roberts (Jeremy); his niece, Madison Garver Berger (Jordan); his nephew, Adrian Shellabarger; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him deeply. Matt loved his family very much and often asked about how each of them were doing. He held many fond memories of time spent with his family.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Steven Wayne Scott II.

Matt’s family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to the extended family Matt found in Lima during the last ten years of his life, who showed him friendship, kindness, and support. They are deeply grateful for the care and companionship Matt received.

I went to school with Matt and though I haven't stayed in touch after school I still think highly of his quiet and gentle nature. That memory of him and his character has always stayed with me. Glad he never changed that.
