Mattie Sullivan Obituary
Mrs. Mattie Rebecca Payne Sullivan, 81, of Paris died Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Henry County Healthcare Center.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Western Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.
She was born on November 21, 1941, in Springville to the late Charlie and Mattie Bell VanDyke Payne. She was a member of Western Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Class of 1959 graduate of Central High School. She had worked many years in Chicago.
She was married to Edward “Jack” Sullivan of Paris in June of 1990.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tony L Ballard, Sr.; siblings, Bobby Payne, Betty Mae Payne Mayo Taylor, William “Bill” Payne and Peggy Payne Searcy.
She is survived by her children, Stanley “Dino” Ballard, Bernita R. (William) Wilson, Terrell (Shantise) Payne and Edwin Ballard; a brother, Paul (Vernesser) Payne; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Sherry Payne; a sister-in-law, Lady Bird Payne; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
