Michael “Mike” Walsh MacKedon Obituary

Entered the fullness of Eternal Life on October 18, 2025 at the age of 93. Preceded in death by his wife Mitzi MacKedon (nee Millard). Loving mother of Margaret “Muffie” (Peter) Browne and Thomas “Tom” MacKedon. Proud grandfather of Mack Browne, Liza Browne, Hannah (Jon Simmons), and Molly and Bill (Cassidy) Browne. Further survived by other loving relatives and many dear friends.

After being adopted at age 4, Mike grew up on Milwaukee’s East side in the company of 7 maiden aunts, all of whom were educators. He was truly a master of the English language. And sheepshead. He went to the University School of Milwaukee. Mike attended Trinity College in Connecticut, then graduated from Marquette University where he was a member of the Varsity tennis team. Following graduation, he spent two years in Germany as a platoon leader in the Army Corps of Engineers. After discharge, he returned to Milwaukee. He qualified as a risk agent and was hired by the Old Line Life Insurance Company and sold insurance throughout his career. Mike played competitive racquetball at the YMCA and the Jewish Community Center, and was a nationally ranked player who won several Wisconsin State Championships. He was also  a longtime member of the Shorewood Men’s Club.

He met his wife Mitzi on a blind date and they married in 1959. Their bond was strong, he died just 50 days after his wife’s passing. Mike was a true gentleman with a pleasant demeanor, and he was always interested in what you were doing. He was dependable and very entertaining. We all enjoyed his gentle and amusing trenchant commentary of the passing scene. He relished his time up north at the cottage, but especially came to life in his role as “Gramps” to his grandchildren, and they loved him dearly. It is of great comfort to think that he and Mitzi are together again, enjoying a “bevvie” and celebrating their long lives together.

Many thanks to everyone who made their years together so wonderful, in particular, the staff at the Milwaukee Catholic Home and the St. Camillus Hospice care team.

Private family services celebrating Mike’s life will take place. Mike and Mitzi’s urn will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials in Mike’s name may be made to Kinship Community Food Center, 2610 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53212, https://www.kinshipmke.org/donate
