Mike Branson Obituary

Michael David “Mike” Branson, age 46 of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was the beloved son of Teresa Branson. A native of Oakland, California, he spent most of his childhood in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduating from Warren Central High School in 1997. Later, he moved with his family to Florida.

Mike was a man who truly went above and beyond for everyone he met. Known for his generous heart, steady presence, and unwavering kindness, he made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He valued his family and friends above all else, and his greatest joy in life was the time he spent with those he loved.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 18 years, Hilary Branson, and their cherished children, Michael David “Mikey” Branson, Jr. (or "Dude" by Mike) and Annabella Acosta“Bella” Branson (or "Lady" by Mike).  Above all else, Mike loved Hilary, Mikey, and Bella deeply, and his greatest pride and joy was being their husband and father. He also leaves behind his Mother Teresa Branson, his brother Jerry Wayne Branson Sr, and a loving circle of family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his nephew Jerry Wayne Branson Jr.

Mike dedicated more than 24 years of his career to the Firehouse Subs brand, beginning in 2002 as a General Manager in the American Dreamer program. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, he rose through the ranks to serve as District Manager, Director of Company Operations, Director of Franchise Operations, Senior Director of Franchise Operations, and most recently, Director of U.S. Operations. Throughout his career, Mike was known as a devoted mentor, a respected leader, and a true ambassador of the brand, always lifting others up and leading by example.

More than his professional accomplishments, Mike will be remembered for the way he showed up for people—always willing to help, always ready with encouragement, and always putting others before himself. He had a quick wit and a signature sarcastic sense of humor that could lighten any moment, often paired with a self-deprecating joke that made everyone around him feel at ease. His laughter was contagious, and time spent with him was never without a smile.

Visitation with the Branson family will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Woodfin Funeral Chapels, and an online guestbook is available for the Branson family at www.woodfinchapel.com. Donations can be dedicated in memory of Mike Branson upon making a donation to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation at firehousesubsfoundation.org.

Hillary I was so sad to hear about Mike's passing. I remember how he excited he was when he first met you. We had a GM meeting and we all went for drink afterwards, which was kinda our team's tradition. He talked about you and made sure he got you some delicious baked goods from European Street before he headed home that night. Sending my thoughts and prayers to your whole family. Mike was an awesome guy

To my friend Mike,

It still doesn´t feel real that you´ve left us. I know I´ll keep looking for you at every future Firehouse Subs gathering.

Thank you for years of laughter, hard work, and steady support. You were the kind of down-to-earth, genuine guy everyone was grateful to know. You made me proud to belong to the Firehouse Subs brand for as long as you were a part of it. I will miss your kindness, your humor, and your big heart more than words can ever say.

With love and gratitude,
Omar Ghorbani

Sending my deepest condolences, comfort, and peace to the family. Mike will be greatly missed.
I had the pleasure of working with him time to time at FHS. Starting during Covid, and many virtual meetings, Branson always made it personable. I'll never forget his energy at every event, but specifically that first reunion/convention back in Orlando.
His light and energy will be missed, but something we will always remember and strive to bring back every day. As a PSF donor, I'll think of Mike extra this year at the events, and with additional donations.

One of the big moments you were there, for my shower. I was one of the people on your first date for her friends stamp of "approval", it wasn't hard when you were willing to meet her friends on a first date. There were weddings, babies to be had, cookouts, amusement parks, game nights and endless laughing...I will have so many memories with you and so thankful for the life you gave our sweet, cherished friend Hilary. Thank you for being everything in a friend, husband, son and father. We were all lucky to know and love you... We will all miss you, thank you for everything you meant and did for me, your friends... Most of all, your family

I´m so sorry to hear about Mike´s passing. I´ll always remember a Foundation grant event in Eagleville, TN-Mike could tell I was nervous to present and immediately stepped in to support me. From the few short years I knew him, he always showed up in such a genuine way and made people feel supported.

The Foundation family and I are keeping you in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time, and we hope these memories bring you some comfort and peace.

Dear Mike,
It’s hard to find the right words to say goodbye to someone who played such a massive role in where I am today. When I first started, I was "the new guy" who didn't know the ropes, and you were the very first person to step up and teach me the ways.
I’ll never forget how you handled my endless questions. No matter how busy things got, you were always there. You had a level of patience that was rare, and you always delivered your advice with that big, signature smile that made the toughest days at work feel manageable.
I truly believe I owe my success to you. You didn't just teach me the job; you taught me how to handle myself with kindness and professionalism. I can’t thank you enough for the time and energy you invested in me.
Work won't be the same without you, Mike. We are all going to miss you terribly, but please know that you will always be in our hearts.
Thank you for everything.
Rest in peace,
Rafael Guevara and Johana Guevara

Mike was a fantastic leader and mentor to many. Shortly after I began my role I was fortunate to have lunch with Mike and he offered his wisdom to help me begin my career with Firehouse. Mike will be missed by all that were graced with his presence.

He was a great man and a great friend to all. He will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who are carrying the grief from his loss.

Mike Branson was truly a shining star - Someone whose presence lit up every room he entered. He was effortlessly funny, always the life of the party, and brought joy to those around him in a way that felt natural and genuine. Beyond his humor, Mike was an incredible mentor. He had a gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and included, and it was clear how deeply he cared for everyone he crossed paths with.

I feel so grateful to have known Mike and to have learned from him. He left a lasting impression on my life, not just through his guidance, but through his kindness and authenticity. We bonded over You've Been Chosen by Cynt Marshall—a book that now holds even deeper meaning - and I would like to dedicate it to him in honor of the connection we shared.

Mike will be deeply missed, but the impact he had on all of us will continue to live on.

Will miss you, Mike.
