Howard Simmons was born on September 16, 1957, in Orangeburg County to the late Howard and Mulvenia Simmons, Sr., in Santee, South Carolina. Howard peacefully departed this life on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center.

Howard received his formal education through the Orangeburg County Public School System. He graduated from Roberts High School in 1977. Upon graduation, Howard began his career as a commercial truck driver. In order to spend more quality time with his family, he became employed at Husquvarna in Orangeburg, South Carolina as a local driver.

On May 28, 1983, after six years of dating, Howard and Ruby were married. This covenant spanned over thirty-nine years. To this union, Howard was blessed to become a father to his pride and joy, Joshua Sentrell and Janee’ Alexander and a loving grand “paw” to his dog, Ginger.

To know Howard was to love him. He had an infectious smile and loved to laugh. He was a sports fanatic and always rooted for the underdogs. He had a quiet Spirit. Before google maps, he was able to get you to and from almost anywhere.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mulvenia Simmons, Sr.; two sisters, Gladys Ruth Keller and Eliza Jamison; and one brother, Ricky Louis Simmons.

Left to cherish beautiful memories are: his loving wife, Ruby Simmons of the home; two children, Joshua Sentrell Simmons and Janee’ Alexander Simmons, both of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Jean Simmons of Santee, South Carolina, and Brenda Bradley of Beaufort, South Carolina; five sisters-in-law, Cynthia Funderburg of Elloree, South Carolina, Patricia Davis of Holly Hill, South Carolina, Rebecca Childs of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Adrienne Riley of Charleston, South Carolina, and Rose Green of Orangeburg, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law; Daniel Keller of Santee, South Carolina, Bryant Childs, Sr., of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Ernest Riley of Charleston, South Carolina; five aunts, Laura Mae Simmons of Cross, South Carolina, Bernice Haigler of Elloree, South Carolina, Idelle Howell of Greenville, South Carolina, Catherine Shuler and Hannah Sheard, both of Santee, South Carolina; two uncles, Nathaniel Howell of Santee, South Carolina and Thomas West of Orangeburg, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
