Dear Troy Donahue Duhaney,

This world became so much better upon your arrival on November 9, 1966.  You filled Beverley and Delouida with so much pride and joy, loving you so much! Joan (Dee) was no longer an only child; technically you became her first friend.  She adored and cared for you from the very beginning, just like mommy and daddy.  Born in Kingston, Jamaica, your temperament exemplifies that your roots and culture were immediately grounded in FAITH; and the Christ within you could not be denied, not then and not now.  Some years later, you became a big brother and protector to your two younger sisters, Leonie (Andrea) and Carol.  From the start, you made sure your sisters knew how much you loved them and would do anything you could to support them.  You helped your dad shape their confidence early in life.

Migrating to Mount Vernon, NY could not have been easy for you, but you demonstrated no fear.  Everything you touched you did to the best of your ability.  Serving as a mentor and confidante to our family and many friends came so effortlessly.  You made time for us all and for that, we appreciate you so much.  Witnessing you grow into the man you’ve become was awe inspiring.  A true team player in baseball, wrestling, football and most importantly in life.  Everyone knew they could depend on you.  Your family was proud as you went on to continue your education in accounting.  However, it was the talent displayed as a serial entrepreneur that was most impressive.  Everyone would say, “Troy is such a good salesman, he could convince you to buy things you do not even need."  Your charm, compelling force and passion was infectious.  How could anyone say “no” to you?

Now, recalling how excited you were to become a dad, the sense of pride, responsibility and happiness you spoke of attributed to the strength and perseverance displayed throughout your life.  Though you accomplished many great things in this life, there was no mistaking that Trinea, Troy Jr., and Tuere made you most proud.  You gave all that you had for as long as you could and they will keep your love, care and acce0tance for each of them close to their hearts forever.  You always expressed how much you hoped they knew that you tried your very best and would do anything for them.  We believe they do.

It’s been said that “cousins are your first best friends.”  However, Troy you took your fatherly role and shared it selflessly with your nieces and nephews, leading Lenika, Wayne, Wonyhae and Kree to be brothers and sisters to your children, not just cousins.  This was something only you could do, keep them together, loving each of them as if they were your very own.  When you moved to Tampa, Florida in 1999, “Mr. Mom” is what your sisters called you because summer after summer you made sure the children spent weeks together, until they became young adults.  The children believed you were the most amazing uncle, or “Unk”, as they affectionately called you.  The love, example and impact you made will keep them close now and always.  Most importantly, knowing that you will always be their protector, these children who are now adults will remain close in your honor.

Last but certainly not least, THANK YOU for being present and staying connected to your cousins, aunts, uncles and entire family.  Let’s not exclude “friends” because you treated and acknowledged your friends as family.  We will continue to acknowledge them as such, especially those who have cared for you when your family could not for one reason or another.  They know who they are.  A billon words could not express our appreciation.  We know you loved Tampa, and your desire was to stay there to get your natural vitamin D from the sun.

On this day, we celebrate your life, love, strength and perseverance.  Anyone who witnessed the positivity, selflessness, peacefulness and the will to live that you demonstrated as you faced challenge after challenge could be nothing but blessed and filled with admiration.  Troy your kindness immeasurable and your tenacity for life unmatched.  We will continue to #SPREADLOVE.  Until we meet again!

Loving you forever and always,

Your Family!

My friend, I will always remember you and you will occupy a very important place in my heart as well as in my princess's. You taught me many things and the main one was to be stronger and a better person. I remember several anecdotes from when I took care of you. Among them the times when you came home tired from dialysis and you told me "let's go down to do exercises at the GYM" and I helped you while we listened to Bob Marley's music. I know you were not well but you were a warrior and an example to follow of strength and brave spirit. My condolences to the entire family This will not be a goodbye my friend, this is a see you later, MY FRIEND TROY.
