Walter Burton was one of ten children born to Alton Burton, Sr., and Rosa Lee Burton on December 26, 1942, in Beaumont, Texas, in the Northend Community.
From an early age, he warmly embraced Christ as his personal Savior and joyfully became a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, being baptized as a child under the late Reverend O.B. Brent's caring guidance. During his early childhood, he lived happily with his grandparents in Hammond, Louisiana. Walter often read the Bible to our beloved grandmother, Nellie, who was unable to read herself, while our grandfather Willie passionately served as a Methodist preacher.
He began his formal education in Hammond, Louisiana, and subsequently returned to Beaumont, where he attended schools in the Beaumont Independent School District. Walter graduated from Charlton-Pollard in 1960. He pursued studies at Lamar University prior to being drafted into the United States Army, where he served for three years. During his military service, he was stationed in Germany and received an honorable discharge.
Walter briefly worked as a licensed insurance agent for Universal Life Insurance Company. With a natural sales talent, he later chose to become self-employed, sourcing and selling vehicles such as cars, boats, trucks, and RVs until he became ill.
Walter enjoyed joking around in his free time, but only after watching you and feeling at ease interacting with others. His passions included dancing, roller-skating, and caring for friends in need. Above all, he cherished eating delicious food and spending quality time with family and close friends. Everyone who knew and loved him will miss him deeply.
On Saturday, November 29, 2025, Walter passed at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas after a brief stay at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beaumont.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert Sr., Alton Jr., and Johnny Ray; one sister, Patricia A. Burton Williams; son, Michael Lawrence; grandparents; several aunts, uncles, and other relatives.
Walter was affectionately known as “Bill Blue” to family and friends who knew him very well. He was given the nickname “Snoop” at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center during his brief stay. Blue is also survived by his siblings, Richard, Sr. (Marian), Alverta Henderson, Linda Burton Appling (James), Linda Thomas, Larry D. Burton, Sr., and Mary Nell Burton; son, Billy Lawrence (Tasha); along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
