Mrs. Julia Colvin Obituary

OBITUARY

Julia Colvin was born on February 21, 1925, in Wylam, Alabama, to the loving parents Martha Oliver and Allen Parker, Sr. She was the fourth of seven children.

Allen Parker, Jr. preceded her in death, along with siblings Johnnie Mae Parker, Ruby Collins, Rowena Poythress, Minnie Tell, and Ernestine Parker, who all preceded her in death.

She was raised in a close-knit family that helped shape the strong, faithful woman we celebrate today. Julia attended Westfield Elementary and Westfield High School in Westfield, Alabama, where she began developing the compassion and determination that would define her life.
In 1943, Julia was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life and soulmate, Kirby Anderson Colvin. Together, they shared 59 beautiful years of marriage, built on love, faith, and devotion.

From their union came five children: Lonnie Colvin (proceeded her in death), Gwendolyn Crumpler, Donald Colvin (who preceded her in death), Jacqueline Blanks and Sandra Breckenridge. Julia poured her heart into the family, leaving a legacy of love that continues through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.

As a young adult, while raising their family with the support of her husband, Kirby, Julia followed God’s calling to serve others by attending nursing school, earning her degree, and beginning a lifelong career in healthcare. She faithfully served as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Baptist Medical Center. Nursing was more than a profession for Julia — it was a ministry, and she carried it out with love, compassion, and dedication. She served with grace until her retirement. Her husband, Kirby, passed away in 2002.

She lived a Christ-like life and was a faithful servant of the Lord and a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Wylam, Alabama. In 2013, as her health declined, Julia moved to Michigan to be cared for by her children. There, she united with Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Sampson Matthews, where she remained a faithful member until the Lord called her home.

On January 23, 2026, at 100 years old, Julia peacefully answered God’s call and entered into eternal rest. While we grieve her earthly absence, we rejoice in knowing that she has heard the words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”

She leaves to mourn her passing three loving children: Gwendolyn Crumpler, Jacqueline Blanks (Douglas), and Sandra Breckenridge (Wayne); nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and twenty-two great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
