I fondly remember Linda and knew her to be very friendly and had magnetic personality , I knew her as growing up at Starlight Baptist Church and lived in Southend of Beaumont, I was privileged to know her and many family members, Ms. Pauline Tyler, Joyce Booker, and my classmate, Donald Hughes, etc. May the Lord give Comfort and Peace to the family, in times like these, Prayers and ❤ Love to the family, Cherish her within your Hearts

Mrs. Linda's Obituary

Linda Sue Hughes Chargois was born on July 17, 1947, in Beaumont, Texas, to Verda Mae Wright and Earl Hughes. She proudly graduated from Charlton Pollard High School in 1965.

Throughout her life, Linda has lovingly dedicated herself to helping others, working as a caring nursing assistant in various hospitals and nursing homes. She also enjoyed her time as a bus chaperone at Booker’s Storybook Daycare and shared her knowledge as a substitute teacher for Beaumont Independent School District, touching many lives along the way. 

Linda was part of the Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church, where she practiced her faith. In her free time, she liked thrifting, collecting, and sharing food with family members. 

She peacefully passed away at her home in Beaumont, Texas, on Wednesday, January 8, 2026, at the age of seventy-eight. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Verda Mae Hughes; her husbands, Steve Charles and Wallace Chargois; her brothers, Glen Hughes, Don Ray Hughes, and Wilbert (Jake) Smith; and her sisters, Carrie Mae Michaels (Bazile), Pauline Tyler, and Pauline Antoine.

Linda is survived by her sisters, Joyce Booker and Marilyn Dumas (Michael); brother, Freddie Hughes; godchildren, Belinda Mays, and Damon Winters; grandchild, Myesha Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
