A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 19, 2025, 11:00 a. m. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Isle Brevelle.  The Mass will be preceded by a period public visitation from 9:00 a. m. to 10:30 a. m.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will then take place following the visitation. 

Interment will follow the Mass in the church's cemetery.

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, Lizzie Mae Metoyer peacefully concluded her 95-year journey on this earth.

Born on April 26, 1930, in Melrose, Louisiana, Lizzie was the beloved daughter of Lizzie Chelette Llorence and Joseph Batneau Llorence, Sr. She began her education at St. Joseph’s Elementary School, completing her studies there through the eighth grade before graduating from St. Matthew High School. She went on to earn a degree in Home Economics from Grambling State University in 1955—an achievement she was incredibly proud of, often calling herself a proud “Gramblinite.”

Shortly after completing her degree, Lizzie returned home and married the love of her life, Vilfried “Totsie” Metoyer, Sr., on April 11, 1955. Together they built a beautiful life and legacy, raising ten children—seven sons and three daughters.

Lizzie began her career as a home economics teacher at Central High School. When her family began to grow, she made the decision to stay home and dedicate herself to raising her children. Once her youngest started kindergarten, Lizzie resumed her career, working at the Work Adjustment Center, which inspired her to pursue additional education and certification in special education. She went on to teach at Cloutierville Elementary School until her retirement.

A devout Catholic, Lizzie was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, Louisiana. Her deep faith was evident in all aspects of her life. She was a 70-year member of the Christian Mothers, taught religion classes for many years, served as a Eucharistic Minister, led the prayer chain ministry, and faithfully attended daily Mass.

Above all, Lizzie was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed—she never met a stranger. She was a talented seamstress and an exceptional cook, and she especially loved sharing stories about her family and rich heritage.

Lizzie’s memory will be cherished by her sister Florence Morgan (Fred); sister-in-law, Valeria Llorence; five sons, Vilfried Metoyer, Jr. (Shirley), Emile Metoyer, Sr. (Chriscella), Martin Metoyer, Sr. (Judy), Archie Metoyer, Sr. (Lorita), Don Metoyer, Sr. (Vicky); three daughters, Jacqueline Metoyer, Deidre M. Morgan (Kevin, Sr.), Laurie Metoyer (Karl Dummons); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister; Addie Mae Metoyer, three brothers; Joseph Batneau Llorence, Jr., James Llorence, Sr., and Henry Llorence, Sr.; sons, Joseph St. Clair Metoyer and Stephen Orlando Metoyer, granddaughter, Kayla Danielle Shackleford and grandson Stephen Orlando “Baby” Metoyer.

Her life was one of service, strength, and deep love. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
