Mrs. Margaret Virginia Bowens Johnson was born on March 18, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Samuel Bowens and Maggie Richards Bowens. She was educated in the Charleston County School System and was a proud graduate of Baptist Hill High School, Class of 1968.
Margaret dedicated over fifteen years of faithful service as a Laboratory Technician at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. She later made Jacksonville, Florida her home, where she resided for most of her life.
A woman of deep faith, Margaret was Presbyterian by religion and a devoted member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Florida. She served faithfully as an usher and was an active member of the Pulpit Aide Society, under the leadership of Reverend J.W. Rigsby. She remained a devoted member under the leadership of Reverend Don Johnson always willing to work in the vineyard of the Lord.
On September 24, 1972, in Charleston, South Carolina, Margaret was united in holy matrimony to Mack C. Johnson, Sr.
On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Mrs. Margaret Virginia Bowens Johnson peacefully departed this life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Mack C. Johnson, Sr.; and her brothers, Samuel Bowens, Jr., Samuel Bowens, Jr, and Isaiah Bowens. She leaves to cherish her loving memories her children: Silvester L. Bowens (Dr. Khristi) and Mrs. Mildred Johnson-Jennings (Michael); additional children: Mack Johnson, Jr., Ms. Elizabeth Hartley, Ms. Velinda Sturgis, and Ms. Lolita Johnson; grandchildren: Mrs. Kanesha Johnson Gentry (Timothy), Ms. Mahogany Bowens, Jayla Johnson, Marcus Jennings, and Thai Gentry; great-grandchildren: Kalea Gentry and Kenzi Gentry; brothers: Arthur Bowens, Horace Bowens (Mildred), and Jacob Bowens (Annie); sister: Mrs. Mildred Deas (Mikel); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sorrowing friends.
Mrs. Johnson will be remembered for her quiet strength, her servant’s heart, and her unwavering faith in God. Her legacy of love and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
