Ms. Betty Jean Hall, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, departed this life peacefully on December 18, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by her family and loved ones by her side. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida 33605. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610
Betty was born on July 6, 1947, as a native of Tampa, Florida. She graduated from Middleton High School in 1965. In 1966, she traveled to Dayton, Ohio and was gainfully employed until 1967. In 1968, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she decided to pursue her education at Edward Waters College. While in Jacksonville she married Willie Hall and had three children. Betty relocated back to Tampa in 1995 where she purchased her second home and joined the Florida Department of Children and Families ("DCF"). She touched so many lives and gained so much respect with her colleagues that knew her that they began to call her "Momma Betty." Although saddened to see her go, Betty retired from DCF in 2013.
Betty found joy in reading scriptures from the bible and rejoicing in the Spirit of God. She emulated what it meant to be a true vessel of the Almighty. She was a Holy Ghost filled Warrior for the Lord, and she did not hesitate to spread His Word to anyone.
Betty was a very proud and private person, and for those that crossed her pathway in life, even if just for a moment, you would never forget her because she had that type of effect on you. She always spoke her mind. She was a "no nonsense" type of Mother and Grandmother that was strict on tradition and family values, and she was highly respected because of those values. She had that fiery spirit that strengthened and served everyone she came in contact with no matter the circumstance. Her presence alone brought comfort and happiness to all those around her. Regardless of how sick she felt or how much pain she endured, she would always greet you on the telephone or in person with positive and meaningful conversation.
Betty was the epitome of kindness, strength, and devotion to her family. She was known for her warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering support for those she loved.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James Mickens, Sr., Alice Mickens and her brother, James Mickens, Jr. She is survived by her children: daughter, Syrenia Hamilton; her two sons, Craig Hall and wife Vickie and Dwayne Hall; four grandchildren, William Contreras, Jr., Khamya Contreras, Kaylee Contreras, and Ka'mora Contreras; three brothers, Samuel Lee Mickens and wife Jacqueline, Charles Mickens and wife, Susan, and Jerome Mickens and wife Jeannie; many nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Ellen Mickens; her best friend, Gail Vanador and other relatives and friends who will forever cherish memories of her and her lifetime of good deeds throughout her lifetime. Betty Hall will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed always and forever.
