Nancy Inserra Obituary

Nancy Annabelle Inserra, age 81, of Homewood, IL passed away early Wednesday morning at home with her daughters caring for her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis S. Inserra Jr. Nancy was a loving mother to Maggie (Craig) Olsby, Anthony Inserra, Jennifer (Patrick) Klingberg, and Gina Inserra. She was the most fun and energetic Grams to Paige Olsby, Joshua Olsby, and Dominic Hernandez. She was also a dog Grandma to Bode, Toby, Woody, Harry, Rosie, Oscar, and baby Rudy. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Margaret Kuettel and her older sister Margaret “Margie” Steffeck.

Nancy was born in Duluth, MN and attended Stanbrook Hall High School. Nancy and Lou met in Duluth and were married on May 23, 1964, they were married for 56 years (until Lou’s passing in 2021). Nancy and Lou moved to Schaumburg, IL where they raised their 4 children. In 1990 they moved to Coventry, RI and then Plainfield, IL in 1997.

Nancy loved to volunteer for everything and anything at church and her children’s schools. She was the PTA president of Coventry High School 96-97 and even won an award for being the best PTA president. Nancy was an avid gardner, always outside in her gardens that she had specially made from ideas she found in magazines, and landscapers were always excited to help with her creations. She won the 2024 Homewood Beautification Award for having one of the best landscaped yards in the city, it was such an awesome award, she was smiling ear to ear. If you ever had the honor to meet Nancy, you know she always had a smile on her face, and we are pretty sure that smile was contagious as all her children have it as well. Nancy will be missed so very much, we love you mama!

Nancy’s interment will be with her husband at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Services will be private. For further information, please contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.

I’ve known Mrs. Inserra my whole life. She was a loving Mom who would do anything for her kids. I can picture her sitting with the car door open, purse on her lap waiting to see who needed to go where next. I remember her volunteering at our school and just always being so nice. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her raise her voice. Thanks for putting up with our crazy antics and all the sleepovers through the years (the ghost in the closet). Mag and I will never forget the time you called us to tell us you were having a baby (Gina). Mrs. Inserra (Mama Inserra) you will be missed! I hope you are surrounded by beautiful gardens and reunited with loved ones. Mag, Jenny, Gina and Tony - I’m lucky that both your parents were a part of my life.
