Nancy L. Klicker, an amazing woman of faith and hospitality, passed away at 88 years old. Her greatest joy was showing her unconditional love and serving so many as a loving spouse, mother, MIL, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cousin, and sharing that same love with others who she considered her family.
Nancy Lorraine Klicker
October 8, 1935 – October 21, 2023
On October 21, 2023, Nancy Lorraine Klicker was taken to heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her family.
Nancy was born October 8, 1935, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, WA, to Hubert Floyd Brown and Illyne Nelson Brown.
Growing up, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her aunts, uncles, cousins, and school friends. She was an exceptional student and a school leader. She was proud of her accomplishments as part of the high school Dolphinette Swim Team and WWHS Yell Squad. Summers were spent working as a “Klicker Picker,” then as a lifeguard. After high school graduation in 1953, she briefly attended college before marrying her former strawberry field boss, Bob Klicker. While in Guam, Bob had a vision that he would marry a very special girl. On January 2, 1955, that vision came true when they got married. Together, they worked hard, laughed often, supported each other, shared much love with family and friends, enjoyed traveling, and raised their three sons and eight grandchildren for 67 years.
Nancy actively supported her husband, Bob, in many national, state, county, and community organizations. She grew up in and was a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church. She was very involved in the Walk to Emmaus, received 2 Golden Acorn Awards for her work in school PTA’s, earned a 40-year jewel as a member of Narcissa Rebekah Lodge #2, and cherished her time leading the PUMC Bereavement Committee.
Nancy was truly the rock of the Klicker family’s farming and enterprise ventures. She kept all the books and did the payroll and tax reporting for the many ventures that Bob and her sons pursued. However, her most important role was that of encourager, supporter, listener, confidant, laugh creator, and making everyone feel important and welcome.
Many will remember Nancy for her hospitality, laughter, and ability to carry on hours of conversation. Her coffee pot was always ready for the next visitor, and she enjoyed sharing life around her oak table and having endless conversations. Many of those conversations centered on organizing another family reunion from her genealogy tree. Not sure which branch on the tree you fit? No problem. Nancy would pour you another cup of coffee and tell you the story.
Nancy was an avid sports fan and loved following local sports teams. She faithfully attended her sons’ and grandchildren’s performances and sporting events. Nancy’s love for Jesus Christ and her family were priorities. She blended them together beautifully each Christmas with a family and friends Birthday Party for Jesus. This included her reading ‘Twas the Night Before Jesus and her uncontrolled-laughing version of marching elves and fairies as she read ‘Twas Right Before Christmas.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Kirk (Nancy, Jr), Kraig (Charlotte), and Mark (Lisa) Klicker; eight grandchildren: Travis (Chelsea), Nick (Hillary), Natalie (William), Kyla (Collin), Hope (Kramer), Jason (Jenn), Jami, and Eric (Madison); and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and sister, Karen Messenger.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Pioneer United Methodist Church (Bereavement Committee), Walla Walla Community Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla, WA 99362. In addition, friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
Her celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 2:00 PM- 3:00 PM at Pioneer United Methodist Church, 209 E. Birch Street, Walla Walla.

Nancy was an amazing woman in all aspects of her life personally, professionally, spiritually and as a community volunteer and advocate. Our families have been connected in Walla Walla for generations and we all feel fortunate to have the friendships and experiences we've had with Nancy, Bob, Kirk, Kraig, Mark and their families. We will all miss Nancy's laugh (giggle), her ever present smile, her stories, her kindness, energy, her optimistic approach to any situation and her love for life! She and Bob have created a lovely legacy with their family. Our love to all the Klickers and their families! Scott and Susan (Joseph) Nielsen

Nancy Klicker had a vibrant energy and was the heart and soul of her family. She was never short on faith, hospitality, or compassion. We knew Nancy and Bob through the friendship of our parents and, of course, through the strawberry harvests. I imagine that this is true of many children raised in the Walla Walla valley. I can't say that my sisters and I earned a lot of money, but the tummy was well nourished, and we learned many wholesome life values. Nancy and Bob were married close to Christmas as were my parents and those of the Josephs. We shared many a meal together celebrating these special unions. It is a testimony to the commitment and love that was a part of these families. Nancy was full of life, and she could talk to anybody about anything! Even after my mother passed away, we would go out to dinner, and she would share about earlier Walla Walla. I look back on these memories, the wonderful historical information that Nancy imparted, and the compassion that shared. She was a unique "light" in this world, and I look forward to continued discussions when we meet in heaven.
"Grief never ends but it does change. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love."
We are truly blessed for having shared time with Nancy and Bob. God's blessing to their family.

Like everyone who knew her, I loved Nancy so much. What a treasure she was. I had the honor of sitting at that oak table drinking coffee with her many times over the years when I worked in the office during strawberry season. It was my dream Job and I loved every minute of it. She and Bob had a huge impact on me and my siblings. I know they’re together again in heaven and that makes me happy. I wish peace and comfort to Kirk, Kraig, Mark and all their family. Much love, Monica ❤

What an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother! Nancy was always happy to see our daughters, Michelle and Jennife, when they came to pick strawberries. She and Bob helped our kids to learn the value of hard work combined with loyalty and commitment. She will be missed every day by her family and extended family, but she will be remembered always as a kind, loving leader in our county.

I remember being surprised at age 12 when our mother told me and my brother, Mike, that we would be picking strawberries that summer of 1960. So, I started working that summer of 1960 for the Klicker family, and continued each summer thereafter, through the summer of 1969, when I was 21. I can almost still see and hear Bob & Nancy in the farm "office", still looking youthful, laughing together over some event that took place that summer day during the strawberry season. I feel fortunate to have known such a joyful and loving couple.
