Nellie Lee Buckingham-Richerson was born to the late Joe and Rosie Buckingham on April 8, 1948, in Alto, Texas. She was the 6th sibling of nine children. As a child, she loved growing up in a house full of siblings where there was an abundance of love.
Nellie received her formal education within the Royse City Independent School District and attended Royse City High School.
Nellie was a constant source of love, laughter, and light. Her bright smile, compassionate heart, and joyful spirit touched many. Her vibrant energy could brighten even the darkest day. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her family and friends. She loved family gatherings, listening to music and loved being on the dance floor. Nellie was the life of the party and could out dance anyone!
Along her life’s journey, she met and married John Morgan and later Benny Richerson. In 1977, she met the love of her life, Robert E. Lee Vaughn, whom she built a life with for 46 lovely years until his passing. Within these unions, she was blessed to be the devoted Mother of 10 beautiful children; she loved each one of them unconditionally.
On October 27, 2025, Nellie peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Nathan and Rosie Buckingham; the love of her life, Robert E. Lee Vaughn; sons, Christopher Morgan, LaShawn Vaughn; daughter, Angela Vaughn; grandson, Jamal Vaughn; brothers, Solomon Mitchell, Jr. and David Lee Buckingham; and her bestfriend, Regina Joy Clarke.
She leaves the following to cherish her beautiful memories; two daughters, Shirley Buckinghan-Allen (Chris) and Taneika Vaughn-Chatman (Demarris) both of Mesquite, TX; five sons, Shannon Morgan (Erika) of Farmersville, TX, Benny Richerson, Jr., William Earl Richerson both of Garland, TX , Richy Vaughn of Dallas, TX and Tyrone Vaughn of Sulphur Springs, TX; thirty-six grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren all whom she adored dearly.
Also, left to cherish her loving memories are her six sisters, JoAnn Buckingham, Annice Jackson, Edna Roberson, Lorene Hudson, Gloria Jean Carter, and Mary Morgan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nellie’s beautiful soul, laughter, and love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her. Though she is gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts.
Forever Loved, Forever Remembered.
