Nellie Rogers Obituary

Nellie Florien (Mitchell) Rogers, age 102, passed from this life on Wednesday, September the 3rd, 2025, after a long fulfilling life.

Nellie Florien Mitchell was born April the 16th, 1923 in Bluejacket, Oklahoma to Clarence Virgil Mitchell and Alice Leota Long. She attended Lone Jack High School in Lone Jack, Missouri where she was named Salutatorian of her 1942 graduating class. She married the love of her life, Everett Louis Rogers on April the 16th, 1942, in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Florien and Everett moved from Missouri to Oklahoma where they started their family welcoming the first of their seven children Nancy Jane, Lewis Dale, Lester Leon, Dennis Ray, Kathy Lou, David Eugene, and Mary Elizabeth. While raising their children, Florien was active in church, teaching Sunday school classes, arts and crafts for Bible School, mentoring many children. She was in the Extension Club where she won many first-place ribbons for her canning, baking, and crocheting skill. She was a 4-H club leader, also filling in at the school cafeteria and as an election poll worker.

One of her greatest pleasures was to crochet for her family and friends anything they would request. She was very competitive when it came to playing card games. She loved to sing church hymns and loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Florien is survived by her children: Nancy (Mike) Hait of Oolagah, OK, Lester (Beth) Rogers of Wann, OK, Dennis Rogers of Lenapah, OK, David (Tammie) Rogers of Lenapah, OK, and Mary (Allan) Gassett of Nowata, OK. Florien and Everett were blessed with 22 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.

Florien was preceded in death by her mother and father, Clarence and Alice Mitchell, brother, Lester, her loving husband, Everett Rogers, two children, Lewis Dale and Kathy Lou. Her legacy of Christian faith and love has continued for five generations. "Granny" as she is called by many, will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, September the 7th, 2025, at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, September the 8th, 2025 at Emmanuel Chapel in South Coffeyville, OK. Derek Wolfe will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rogers Cemetery, northwest of Welch. Casket bearers will be Glen, Anthony, Michael, and Steven Rogers, Ronald Cummings, and Jeremiah Cody. Honorary casket bearers will be Timothy, James, Kenneth, Charles, and Joseph Rogers and Jestan Cody.

So hard to say good bye to not only my grand but a best friend. The one that taught me to crochet, to cook and most of all how to root myself and my family in faith. I loved our story of the song, "I'll Fly Away" and I was honored to sit by your bedside and sing it to you over and over.. I'm not saying good bye but till I see you in the Sweet By and By..
I love you and yes you have loved me longer...
