Nicholas DeLuise Obituary

Nicholas C. DeLuise, 68, of Shelton, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at his home on August 11, 2025.

Born on February 15, 1957, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Nick was the son of the late Alphonse DeLuise and Rose (Terranova) DeLuise. He is survived by his two beloved sons: Nicholas A. DeLuise and his wife, Alexandra, along with their children Christopher, Lillian, and James; and Matthew D. Kochanski and his husband, Paul, with their daughter Katrina. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony M. DeLuise.

Nick was retired from the printing industry. Outside of work, his true passion was music. A talented drummer and vocalist, he performed with his band, Out of the Barn, whose members became a second family to him and made a lasting impact on his life

Nick was equally at home behind the wheel of his cherished Corvette or on the open road with his motorcycle. While he loved both, his true happiness was found with his grandchildren whom he loves dearly. His love for his family and friends will be remembered by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill, on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 12-2p.m. Burial will be held privately.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Hartford Healthcare Cancer institute for their care and compassion over the last few years.

One of my favorite memories of Nick was how welcoming he was to my dad. They bonded quickly over their love of music, and around Christmas we’d all end up singing and playing together. Being fellow Italians, Nick, my dad, and I always had things we could connect and laugh about. Those moments of music, laughter, and family joy will always stay with me.

I also loved seeing him with my mother-in-law. He was always making her laugh, and together they truly brought out the best in one another.

He will be remembered with love and so deeply missed.

I had the pleasure of knowing Nick for over 10 years. As my mom’s fiancé, he became such a special part of our lives, and in that time, I got to know him for the kind and funny soul he was. He was always so warm and welcoming, and best of all, he made my mom so happy. Some of my favorite memories are from the holidays at my mom’s house, spending hours at the kitchen table with Nick, catching up and laughing together. I also loved sharing my love of music with him, and I’m deeply grateful I was able to record his band before he passed so that we can hold onto that memory forever.

Nick, thank you for the love and joy you brought into our lives. You will be so missed, but never forgotten. May you rest in peace and keep the music going.

Dear Nicholas and Matthew,

I am so very sorry for your loss. As my brother mentioned I too have such fond memories of our families getting together when we were growing up. Those memories will always be treasured. May he rest in peace.

Nick- it was a blessing to have you as a part of our family for the past 11 years. While you and my mom were together, and engaged, we had so many memories and holidays spent together. You raised two great kids and we are so glad you were able to spend time with your grandchildren. My favorite thing about you is how much time you spent with my grandmother. She loved speaking with you and your long discussions together. The best thing was knowing that you approved of my incredible fiancé Matt. You knew we were getting engaged and we are grateful for that last congratulations text. Praying for you and the family- especially on this Sunday. May you rest easy and we hope you´re riding the Harley in Heaven. Blessings- Ashley

Matt and Nick,
We are sorry for the loss of your Dad. He will be missed.
Your Dad and I grew up as kids. Your grandparents were my god parents. I was fortunate to reconnect with him and we had many memories to chat about.
He was a good person and great friend.
May he rest in peace.

Dear Nicholas, Matthew, and family
We are very sad to hear of your Dad’s passing. We have known Nick for over 11 years through mutual friends in Shelton. We always enjoyed spending time with him during our friend gatherings. More recently I (Réal) would have breakfast with your Dad at our local dinner. Recently a couple of Sundays ago, your Dad and I went to a Corvette show in Guilford. He truly loved his Corvette and was able to educate me on all the different models we saw at the show. The only thing he enjoyed talking more about was the both of you and his grandchildren. We will miss him greatly and will miss spending time with him. Unfortunately, we are not able attend the service for your Dad because we are in North Hatley, Quebec Canada to attend my aunt’s funeral.
With our deepest condolences,
Réal & Elena Lavigne

Nick, I am struggling to find the right words to express how missed you will be. You were such a joy to be around and speak to. I loved hearing about your life, the silly things that made us both laugh and all the conversations about Italian food. You were someone I genuinely enjoyed seeing and talking to, regardless of what it was about. I thoroughly enjoyed our weekly chats and deep conversations about anything and everything that life was throwing at you that week. Your smile was infectious and your laugh was something that I looked forward to hearing every week. You will be profoundly missed, but I am so grateful that your suffering is over. Keep making people laugh, enjoying your delicious Italian food (Calorie free), and play all the beautiful music up in Heaven. I am sure I will see you again up there.
