Orin Leroy “Jack" Anderson, Maj (Ret), USA

Orin Leroy Anderson, known to everyone as Jack, of Seaford, Va, passed away January 23, 2026, at Riverside Select Care Hospital, Newport News, VA, at the age of 79. He was born in Wapahu, Oahu, Hawaii, on April 6, 1946, to Avery Orland and Christine Santiago Anderson. As the son of a military member, Jack spent his childhood in various locations across the United States before settling in Livingston, CA. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas, El Paso, TX. He was drafted into the US Army in May 1967 and was commissioned a 2Lt in January 1968. His tours of duty included posts at Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Bliss, TX, Camp Smith, Hawaii, Fort Stewart, GA, and Fort Eustis, VA. He served heroically in Vietnam during which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with the V Device and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters as well as the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. He retired from Fort Eustis as a Major in 1987 after 20 years of service.

Jack then pursued his passion for cars and motorcycles as well as his skill in working with people. He held various management positions for the Hall Group, Hampton Chevrolet, and Auto Haus. Following his full retirement, he became an enthusiastic golfer, developing many steadfast friendships. He was also a prior member of the Oyster Point Rotary Club and the Hampton Roads Junior League.

Jack is survived by his wife, Judith (Judy) Robins Anderson, his daughters, Alice (Ali) A. Hoegel (Phil), Kathrine (Katey) A. Gray (Ronnie), and son, Aaron O. Anderson.

Jackie was two years ahead of me in Livingston High School. He graduated in 1964, played basketball, worked at Serv-all Market while attending Merced College. Drafted in 1967, he gave me the keys to his Corvette for me to sell and boy did I enjoy driving that car. HIs first assignment was stationed in Buffalo N.Y. I and a good friend hitch-hiked across the country and stayed in the barracks. About 10 years later, my family visited his family in Hawaii for a week. The last time we got together was in 2014 when he and Judy came back to Livingston for his 50th Class Reunion. Every one in our town who knew Jackie loved him, including me.

Jack was a great friend that when I came to Virginia, we always found time to play golf and enjoy each others time. It truly hurts to lose a great friend. He will always be remembered and upon my return we will play around of golf for my friend.

I worked with Jack while he was in "The Car Business" many years ago. Jack had many stories that he told with great enthusiasm! He was always a good listener and taught me a lot when we worked together. Of course, Jack always had a twinkle in his eye when he spoke of Judy. He was such a kind man.

Jack and I have been friends for approx 40 years. He is the most positive person I have ever met. He loves his family. He is obsessed with a beautiful yard! No weed dare grow in his presence. He planned trips to include the entire family to make wonderful memories together. His passing is a huge loss!!! The world was a better place with him in it. He so enjoyed talking with people, he had no strangers!
