Patrick J. Beshel, born in 1961, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024. A lifelong resident of Gurnee, Illinois, Patrick lived a life full of passion and joy.
Patrick graduated from Warren Township High School in 1979 and continued his education at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned his degree in 1983. His dedication to education was balanced by his profound love for the outdoors. Patrick’s heart was happiest when he was hiking, camping or fishing by the river, reveling in the serenity and beauty of nature. A man of many talents, Patrick loved to cook and often found obscure recipes to share with the family. He was also a secret crafter whose creative side was known only to a few.
A dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Notre Dame football, Patrick's enthusiasm for sports was matched only by his athletic prowess. He excelled in baseball and basketball during his high school years, earning MVP honors and leaving a lasting impact on his teammates. Known for his big heart, devilish grin, and unparalleled sense of humor, Patrick had a unique ability to brighten any room with his presence and make everyone around him smile.
He was a loving son, brother, and uncle cherished by his family. Although he was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eileen Beshel, he is survived by his loving siblings, Larry (Lillian) Beshel, Rich (Geraldine) Beshel, Kathy (Curt) Hagglund and Rita (Jim) Gabrielsen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Nancy, who will remember him for his warmth, generosity, and the countless ways he enriched their lives.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents at Victory Lakes Nursing Home and the hospice team for their compassionate care and support during Patrick’s final days.
A celebration of Patrick’s life will be held on August 8, 2024, with visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 and a service at 1:00 at Gurnee Salata Funeral Home 4190 Old Grand Ave. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. All who knew him are welcome to join in remembering a life well lived.

I have so many wonderful memories of Pat. His positive attitude and fun spirit made him enjoyable to be around. We shared so many laughs together through grade school, high school, and college. His competitiveness in sports made it fun to be his teammate and to watch him play. May God Bless Pat and may God bless his loved ones during this time of sorrow.
