Pauline Bailess Obituary
Hurt.……Pauline Shelton Bailess, age 75 of Hurt died Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born October 13, 1947 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Gladys Saunders Shelton of Gretna and the late Dan Thomas Shelton. She was predeceased by one brother-in-law, James Roark. Mrs. Bailess retired from Schrader-Bridgeport; and she was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and Assistant Sunday School Director. She was a devoted daughter and loved to help others. Mrs. Bailess always put everyone else before herself. She loved to cook, and she loved supporting the Renan Volunteer Fire Department by helping with Christmas time donations.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Johnny Bailess of the residence; one daughter, Karen Patrick and husband, Broderick of Altavista; one brother, Ed Shelton and special friend, Pam Patterson of Hurt; one sister, Penny Mays and husband, Melvin of Rustburg; two grandchildren who were the joys of her life, Kayleigh Bailess, and Kamden Patrick; one brother-in-law, David Bailess and wife, Delores of Hurt; two sisters-in-law, Frances Shelton and husband, Larry of Hurt, and Martha Roark of Hurt.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Piney Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Matthew Speck, Pastor Ronnie Simpson, and Rev. Bobby Brumfield. Burial will follow at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

I will never forget the day that I first met Pauline twenty-two years ago. Edd wanted me to meet his family, and we went to Johnny & Pauline's home. From the moment we met, Pauline welcomed me into the family as she also did with my son, Jacob. We have so many fond memories of family cookouts, Mother's Day celebrations, and birthdays. She was always instrumental in planning the get-togethers and the menus. She let each of us know what was needed so that everything would be provided.
Pauline had so much compassion for family, friends, and neighbors. She was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she and Johnny were always taking food to anyone going through an illness or a tough time. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life. After my son, Jacob, began work as a UPS driver, she often told me that every time she saw one of the trucks, she said a prayer for him. I appreciated that more than she will ever know. We would all be so lucky to have a prayer warrior such as Pauline.
Every time that the family was gathered in her room at the hospital, you could feel the love that existed there. Her family is amazing.
It is my hope that memories of the happy times will be a consolation for the family. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. She will remain in our hearts forever.

Johnny, Aunt Gladys, and Bailess family, I am so terribly sorry to hear about Pauline’s passing. Pauline was an amazing, sweet, kind-hearted godly woman and she truly made an impact on so many people including myself. She was my number one supporter during my college experience and we had some conversations that I will cherish forever. I hope it brings you peace and comfort knowing how many people loved her and how many lives she touched because she touched my life in so many ways by encouraging me to finish my education and be the best person I could be.
