Mrs. Peggy Gavin Sinanian, 89, of Blairsville, GA passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, September 27, 2024, in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Sinanian was born on June 14,1935 in New York, NY, as Mary Margaret Gavin to John Stephen Gavin and Mary McHale Gavin. She spent her formative years growing up in County Mayo, Ireland. Several years after returning to New York, she met and married the love of her life, Loris R. Sinanian, in July of 1959. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage living in New York and Los Angeles before settling in Atlanta for 28 years where they raised their children while living full lives. They retired to Blairsville, GA, in 2000 where they remained active through service to their church and community.
Peggy served as Director of the Pro-Life Office of the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta for 10 years. Upon retirement, she became Director of Religious Education for St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville and for St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Blue Ridge. She had a beautiful singing voice, a gift she was honored to share with St. John Paul II while on a church trip to the Vatican. All who met her were endeared by her “Smiling Irish Eyes.” She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Gavin.
Surviving Mrs. Sinanian are her loving husband, Loris, who was her best friend for 68 years; four children, Arlene Sinanian of Atlanta, GA, Linda and Jeff Forden of Rocky Point, NY, Claire and Darrell Bartlett of Roswell, GA, Stephen and Kelly Sinanian of Boone, NC; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and her caregivers Averil Stafford and Sheryl Kennedy, who are forever family.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA, with Father Mario Lopez officiating. Interment will be scheduled for later this year at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family welcomes friends to join them for a reception following mass at Marion Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations in her memory to the Respect Life Ministry at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

I loved Peggy's keen mind, and appreciated her grasp on trivia at multiple venues - I'm missing the gift of Peggy at the table. Thoughts and prayers to Loris and all the family.
