Peter Arduino, Sr. Obituary

WATERTOWN

Peter J. Arduino Sr.

"Beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather"

Mr. Peter J. Arduino Sr. 84 of 63 Lockwood Drive, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Village at East Farms, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Mary C. (Berte) Arduino for 56 years.

Peter was born in Tarrytown, New York on April 16, 1929 son of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppa (Abrami) Arduino.  He was a 1947 graduate of Washington Irving High School, where he excelled in sports, especially football and track.  He graduated from Westchester Community College, where he received a degree in Electronics Technology.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1951 to 1954.  He worked as an Electronics Technician for Timex Corp. in Irvington, NY until he was transferred to Middlebury, Connecticut in 1977.  He retired from Allied Signal in 1991.

He coached little league for many years in Tarrytown, was a Tarrytown Parks and Recreation volunteer, a high school football referee, and a volunteer fireman for the Phoenix Hose Fire House in Tarrytown until moving to Connecticut. He was an avid tennis player, Notre Dame football fan, and a life-long Yankees fan.  He enjoyed spending countless hours tending to his vegetable garden and traveling with his family to other parts of the United States, Canada and Italy.

He was on the founding committee of Carolyn’s Place Pregnancy Care Center in Waterbury, where he dedicated himself to the protection of the unborn and was a loving presence to girls and women in need.  He was the go-to handyman and did whatever was necessary to ensure that every client he met felt loved, valued, and cared for.  He was always the first person to help anyone in need, whether it be family, friend, or stranger.  His kind and gentle nature endeared him to all who knew him.  He lived out his Christian faith in every aspect of his life.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children; Jo Anne Macioci and her husband Michael of Southington, Maria McWaid of Wolcott, Peter Arduino Jr. of Watertown, and Diane Premus and her husband Joseph of Southington, eight grandchildren; Christina, Nicole and Danielle Macioci all of Southington, Justin and Pamela McWaid both of Wolcott, and Julia, Olivia and Andrew Premus all of Southington, his brother, Frank Arduino and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother Santo Arduino, and two nephews; Luke Arduino and Frank “Butchie” Berte.

His wife, children, and grandchildren were the delights and loves of his life.

Special thanks to the entire staff at the Harbor at the Village at East Farms for their love, compassion, and care given to him and his entire family.  Also, thank you to VITAS hospice for the compassionate care given to everyone.

Your father was a great guy and I had the privilege of being his good friend. He kept me stocked in Timex Test Watches. Many the happy Saturdays we had at the tennis courts, battling our sons. More men should use him as model father, husband and friend.

So sorry for your loss. Peter and I worked together at Timex / Bendix from 1981-1985. I thought the world of him, but we lost track of each other. He was a very special person.

Aunt Mary ,Jo Ann,Maria, Peter, and Diane I'm so sorry for your loss. He is at peace now and has joined my dad and the rest of the families to start the next journey.
Wasn't able to get time off from my job to come back east for the funeral. That's one downfall with being out in California is being able to see and stay in touch with everyone

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you
