Philip Ray Skaggs Sr, 61, died January 22, 2019, surrounded by family.
Phil never strived for fame or power, however, he was a man that achieved great success in his life. He had immense love in his heart for his sister Susan Maynard and her husband Roger Maynard and their two children, Brittany Robbins with her husband Carl Robbins and Brandon Maynard along with his wife Brandy Maynard; and his sister Jana Chaney and her husband Steve Chaney and their children, Cody Chaney and Cameron Chaney.
But whether it was with a goofy joke or a strong shoulder of support, Phil’s main focus was that of his wife, Sylvia, and his two sons, Phil Jr and Timbo. He gave them everything.
He was Superman. While not able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, he was a beacon of inspiration for many that knew him. He led through example that you could do great things through love and family. That it is more than enough to create a legacy through your hard work and a simple life. He will be remembered as each lesson he taught is passed on to the next generation.
And he will be greatly missed.
Phil is preceded by his father, Herman Ray Skaggs and his mother Wilma Aileen Skaggs.
Cremation has been entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Winfield Chapel. 219-661-2600.
He is survived by his much loved and loving wife, Sylvia Skaggs; his two children, Timothy and Philip Jr; his two sisters, Susan Maynard and Jana Chaney.

He was our neighbor For only a couple years but in that short amount of time. I came to know him as someone who would lend a helping hand anytime you needed it. He was always friendly and I will miss being able to stop by for a few minutes and just shoot the breeze with him. My deepest sympathies to his wife Sylvia and the rest of his family.

I remember Phil as I babysat Little Phil and Timmy. Now they are grown up and I wish them a life filled with the Holy Spirit and fantastic memories of their dad. Sylvia I am so sorry you lost him so early in life, but you know you will be with him again. Susie I am deeply sorry for you, because I have a brother too. You are a strong woman but let Roger comfort you! May God bless you all with His love and comfort
