Ralph Lyman Jones, III, 78 passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025. He was born on February 7, 1947, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to the late Ralph Lyman Jones Jr. and Irene B. (Knickerbocker) Jones.
Ralph graduated from FDR High School in Hyde Park, NY, in 1965 and later attended the University of Maryland. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from February 1966 until his retirement in August 1986, including a tour in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Following his military service, Ralph worked as a marine technician at several marinas around Lake Winnipesaukee.
On August 2, 1969, Ralph married the love of his life, Cynthia J. Gorst. Together, they shared a life filled with travel, adventure, and family. Ralph and Cyndy journeyed to England, Ireland, and many places across the United States. She was his constant companion and traveling buddy.
Ralph was a man of many passions. In his youth, he played on numerous baseball teams and was a proud member of the Pacers Drum Corps. He loved fishing, playing darts, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed Premier League soccer and was a dedicated NASCAR fan, attending races in Loudon, Daytona, Darlington, and Charlotte. He was known for his kind and pleasant nature and his dry sense of humor.
Ralph is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Cynthia; his children Christopher G. Jones and wife Leslie A. Jones, and Aimee H. Jones and her late husband Thomas P. Dillon; and his cherished grandchildren: Kaylie Jones and fiancé Nathaniel Mangrum, Rylee Jones, Arianna Noury, Caleb Jones, Muriel Jones, Elliott Jones, and Jacob Dillon. He also leaves behind his great-granddaughter Maeve Mangrum.
He is also survived by his brothers Robert Jones (Barbara) and Richard Jones (Margret), his sister Robin Bohlmann, and brothers-in-law Bruce Gorst (Etzuko) and Fritz Gorst (Linda), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ralph will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, his humor, and his gentle spirit.

Ralph, his 2 brothers Bob and Rich and I worked at the now Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park, N.Y. during the summers when school was not in session. Ralph was a great guy and a hard worker. I will never forget him. May God continue to bless him.

To the Jones family,
God bless you all. As a former member of the Poughkeepsie Pacers, I have great memories of our years together at parades, competitions or exhibitions. Years that I will always treasure. I followed Ralph, a year later enlisting in the USAF! RIP, my friend ❤
