Rebecca Mathews Obituary

Rebecca Rae "Becky" Mathews, 80, of Williamsport, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Becky was born on December 3, 1945, in Lebanon, Indiana, to loving parents who instilled in her the values of hard work, kindness, and devotion to family. Qualities she carried with her throughout her life.
Her family eventually settled in Lafayette, IN and she was a 1964 graduate of Jefferson High School.
Becky married Larry Mathews at the Williamsport Christian Church on October 16th, 1977. Larry and Becky had 4 children between them from previous marriages and created two more together. They came together, under God, and raised their blended family for 32 years until Larry’s death in 2009.
For 46 years, Becky faithfully served her community as a school bus driver, a role she treated as far more than a job. She safely transported generations of local children, many of whom fondly remembered her long after their school days ended. Her bus was a place of consistency, warmth, and quiet care, and countless families trusted her with their most precious cargo year after year. Few people can say they touched as many lives in such a steady, meaningful way as Becky did from behind the wheel of her bus.
Alongside her husband, Larry, Becky also co-owned and operated Our Place, a local restaurant they ran together for more than 12 years. True to its name, Our Place was more than a business, it was a gathering spot filled with laughter, friendship, and familiar faces. Becky cherished the relationships formed there and the restaurant became a place where great food, great friends, and a welcoming spirit made everyone feel at home.
Becky was also a proud farmer’s wife and the steady heart of her home. She devoted herself fully to her family, finding her greatest joy in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love was generous, patient, and unwavering. It was shown through small, everyday acts that made others feel seen and cared for.
In her quieter moments, Becky enjoyed gardening, reading a good book and working on puzzles. She bowled in a league in Covington, IN for over 30 years, forming friendships that lasted decades. No matter the setting, her sweet demeanor, gentle humor, and genuine kindness left people feeling better simply for having spent time with her.
She was an avid fan of her beloved Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and of course, the Purdue Boilermakers.
Becky is survived by her children: Carmen (Ed) Bratton, Matt (Elly) Cawthon, Josh (Michelle) Cawthon, Travis (Rebekah) Mathews, and Todd (Melissa) Mathews; her siblings, John (Pam) M. Stall III and Patti (Sam) Stratton; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, John M. and Barbara Stall II; her husband, Larry Mathews; her brother, Andy Stall; her daughter and son-in-law, Jodie and Billy Hunter; and her granddaughter, Stephanie Bratton.
Becky’s life was one of quiet strength, faithful service, and deep love. She asked for little, gave freely and leaves behind a legacy measured not in accolades, but in the countless lives she touched through her kindness, reliability, and heart. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, December 20, from 11 am - 2 pm at the Ura Seeger Memorial Auditorium with Eagles services at 1:45 pm.  The memorial service will begin at 2 pm with Brenda McIntosh officiating. All are welcome to stay for dinner following the service in the SHS cafeteria. The family also requests that family and friends dress casual and support Becky’s teams.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Hedrick Church of God, Deacon's Fund, 942 S. Adams St., Williamsport, IN   47993.
