Retired SFC Samuel Henry Blakey Jr. Obituary

Funeral services for Retired SFC Samuel Henry Blakey Jr., 66 of Killeen, Texas will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home Killeen, Texas. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. 


Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2020, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas.


Mr. Blakey passed away February 4, 2020 in Killeen, Texas. 


Samuel Henry Blakey Jr., son of the late Samuel Henry and Mildred Blakey was born on October 7, 1953, in Washington, PA.  He was educated in the Brownville, PA School District. He was a star football player and excelled in academics. He graduated in 1971 from German Township High School in McClellandtown, PA.  On February 22, 1972, he enlisted into the United States Army. He served one tour in the Persian Gulf War. While serving his country he received the following decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons: The Army Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon-5, Army Good Conduct Medal-6, National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Army Achievement Medal w/1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Driver Mechanic Badge and the Army Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster. After serving his country for 20 years he received an honorable discharge. Samuel loved the military and the military loved him.


Samuel married the beautiful Julia Anita Gibson on October 7, 2013 in Killeen, Texas. They shared many wonderful memories.


Samuel lived in the Central Texas area and was a past member of Greater Vision Community Church in Killeen, TX. He was a devoted Mason. Samuel was a devoted family man, who believed in and loved the Lord. Samuel was loved and will be missed.


Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Julia Anita Blakey of Killeen, TX; daughter, Carmen “Chi Chi” Blakey-Ortiz of Enterprise, AL; sons, Russell B. Tolbert (Roxana) of Killeen, TX and Justin B. Tolbert (RoSina) of K-Town Germany; sisters: Catherine Ellison (Raymond) of Pittsburgh, PA, Marlene Talley of Canonsbury, PA and  Donna Rae People’s of Washington, PA; brothers: Raymond Blakey and Terrance Blakey Sr. both of Columbus, OH; his three precious granddaughters whom he loved and adored: Jasmine A. Q. Tolbert, Eliana A. Tolbert (Peek a Poo) and Liya N. Tolbert and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and military family that extends near and far. 


He is preceded in death by his father Samuel Henry Blakey Sr., mother Mildred Blakey and his brother Jerome Blakey.

Tony I will never forget the evening we met, you and Julie came over to the house for your first time during the holidays, we had so much fun that night. You were a great person and was there for me when Ray passed, not to mention that my Sis Julie loved you like crazy, you became a part of our family instantly. My sincere condolences to the Blakey family. I was so sad to hear that Blakey died. He loved the Pittsburg Steelers as I do, so we talked about football often when I would visit Killeen. He was such a kind man. Rest In Peace Blakey.
