Richard Dickerson, Sr. Obituary

Richard Otis Dickerson, Sr. (Dick), 77, of Gloucester Va, passed away in his home after bravely fighting cancer for nearly 6 years on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Ellis Dickerson and Mae Elizabeth Dedrick, and brother Jerry Dickerson.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Shelby, of 57 years. His incredible children, Cindy Ruehrmund (John) and Ricky Dickerson, Jr. His beloved grandchildren, Brandi Jones (Wesley) and Kenny Martin. And the light of his life, his great grandchildren, Brayden, Juliana, and Richie. He is also survived by his brothers, George Dickerson (Barbara) and Harold Dickerson (Mary), and many other family members.
Richard retired from the shipyard after 41 years. He was a hardworking, loving, generous, and well respected man. He never met a stranger.
Richard loved to hunt, fish, and chauffeur his wife to numerous dancing events, while being amused and entertained by his ballerina.
Shelby and family want to extend a special thank you to Richard’s extraordinary medical team, NP Shannon Burris, Dr. Bruce Booth, and his sweet Olivia. Thank you for giving Richard 5+ years of quality time. We would also like to thank our miracle man Dr. Joseph Lombard, who’s magic dental skills are only matched by his compassion for his many patients.
Services will be held Tuesday, January 28 at Reedswood Christian Church in Gloucester. Visitation at 6 with the service to follow at 7.

To my darling Richard,
Once in a lifetime there comes a man, who enriches your life like no one else can. Thank you God for sending Richard to me, when You call me home we’ll share eternity.
I love you Richard,
Your little dumpling Shelby

We've been friends since the shipyard days many years ago and getting off the bus at Woods X Roads where we both lived. Richard was always busy building his house or working on their beautiful place, on his tractor, greenhouse and garden. He would help you out if he could and was always a friend. May God Bless You and Yours, Bill

I have so many fond memories of Richard his dad and brothers from our hunt camp in the Blue Ridge mountains. He was a great outdoorsman and loved walking the ridges. Truly, he never met a stranger and was always eager to talk about his love for his family.
