On Friday, June 2, 2023, Richard S. Hand, Jr., passed away at the age of 67.
Richard was the proud father of Andrew Hand and Leanna Hand Reynolds; and proud grandfather of Griffin and Grace Reynolds.
Born February 2, 1956 to Richard Sylvester Hand, Sr. and Xcuripha Hand in Bonifay, FL, he graduated from Holmes County High School and attended Chipola Jr. College and the University of West Florida.
He enjoyed a long and successful career in the mining industry, with a family owned business, West Florida Sand and Lime, Georgia Marble, and Vulcan Materials. He was recognized with many awards and achievements for excellence over the years.
Richard’s passion for living was obvious to all who knew him. He loved hunting, fishing, and preparing delicious food for his family to enjoy, which they always did. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and close friends and making them laugh, often while shucking out an oyster or two (dozen).
In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his sisters, Hope Rooney (Pat), Joan Steverson, Nancy Langford, Ellen Hand (David Croyle); and brother, Randal Hand (Connie).
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 8th, 11:00AM at Dunbar Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

I am so sorry to hear of Richards passing. He was my neighbor for many years. He always talked about how proud he was of his children! I can see him now out in his driveway with a huge cooler on the back of his tailgate of his white pick up truck, shucking oysters that he had brought back from one of his trips to Florida. Richard always had a twinkle in his eye and would offer you the shirt off his back. I will never forget him we had many laughs through the years. May he rest in peace. He will be missed.
Sincerely,
Erin Lounsbury
