Richard “Ricky” Hernandez, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the age of 55. He was born in Ganado, Texas, on July 1, 1969, to Lois Guevara Hernandez and the late Ignacio G. Hernandez, Sr.

Ricky worked for Eagle Fire and Safety Inc. for 16 years. He was a dedicated father and grandpa, known for his love of family, the Dallas Cowboys, and BBQ’s. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Ricky is survived by his beloved daughter, Brianna Hernandez (Roland Arredondo); son, Richard Hernandez, Jr.; mother, Lois Guevara Hernandez; sisters, Enora Hernandez, Gloria Hernandez, Sylvia Barefield (Eugene), Michelle Reyes (Salvador); brothers, Raymond Hernandez, (Soila), Ignacio G. Hernandez, Jr., Miguel Hernandez; grandchildren, Estella Rose Arredondo and Vada Joe Arredondo; numerous nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ignacio G. Hernandez, Sr.; sister, Velma Ann Trevino; and two nephews, Isaac Andre Ybarra and Tony Zamora.

The pallbearers will be Richard Hernandez, Jr., Miguel Hernandez, Raymond Hernandez, Ignacio G.  Hernandez, Jr., Emilio Hernandez, Domingo Hernandez, Eugene Barefield, and Rolando Arredondo. Honorary pallbearers are Salvador Reyes, Jr., Ignacio M. Hernandez, Warren Hernandez, Raymond Alex Hernandez, Nico Rene Hernandez, Joe William Hernandez, Sabas Mosqueda, Dailynn Hernandez, and Christopher Renee Garza.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions towards funeral expenses. 

Services for Richard Hernandez will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel, visitation is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by the Rosary and Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m., Burial will take place immediately after the service in the Latin American Cemetery. Reverend Michael Petering will be officiating.
