Richard J. Sekely Sr., age 83, of Guilford Lake, died at 5:44 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at his home. He was born August 8, 1932 in Royal Oak, Michigan, the son of the late Carl and Wilma (Stauffeneger) Sekely.
He was a 1951 graduate of Western Reserve Academy and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1956. He was the owner of the Guilford Lake Grille for 14 years, and previously he retired in 2001 as owner/president and chairman of the board of Sekely Industries where he worked for over 50 years. Richard was a member of the Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church and attended the Hanoverton Christian Church.
Richard was co-founder for many businesses such as; Lamacs, Inc in Troy, MI, Solartec Inc. in Salem, ATD in Youngstown, Bandz, Inc. in Smelterville, ID, Andiamo Equestrian Center in Hanoverton, and J & S, Ind., in Detroit, MI., and Guilford Lake Grille in Hanoverton.
He was a member of Perry Masonic Lodge #185 F. & A.M., Salem York Rite Chapter #92, Salem Commandery #42 Knights Templar, Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio, Omega Council 44, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Youngstown 32nd Degree Mason, Royal Patron- Faith Court- Order of Amaranth #43, Royal Order of Jesters #14, 1974 Worshipful Master- Salem City Lodge #698, Salem Chapter #92, Al Koran Shrine.
He was past member of the Board of Directors for ATD, Inc. – Chairman, Bank One, Farmers Bank, First Steuben Bank Corp., J & S Industries, Lamacs- Chairman, Salem Golf Club – President in 1972 and board director from 1967-1973, Sekely Industries- Chairman, and Solartec, Inc.- Chairman. Present member- Board of Directors for Andiamo Equestrian Center, Bandz Inc., D.W. Dickey Co., and Guilford Grille, LLC.
His hobbies were raising Arabian Show horses, harness driving where he won two top tens at national level and received many regional titles- champion, reserve championships, and also won the Canadian National championship. He was member of the Salem Golf Club and Rockwell Springs Trout Club for 50 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Lindia (Byers) Sekely whom he married September 12, 1992; four sons, Richard Sekely Jr. of Salem, Robert Sekely of Gilbert, Arizona John Sekely of Barefoot Beach, Florida, and Carl (Susan) Sekely of Farmington Hills, Michigan; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four stepchildren, John (Mary) Lasky of Salem, Scott Lasky of Lisbon, April Lasky of Lisbon, and Alicia (Matt) Frampton of Hanoverton.
Preceded in death by a son, James R. Sekely; and a brother, C. Jack Sekely.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Evangelist Jason Pancake and Rev. Aimee Raymond officiating. Calling hours will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2016 and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A Masonic service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
