Richard Robert Willyard, beloved son, devoted friend, gifted dancer, and cherished member of every community he touched, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025.
Born on April 12, 1969, in Pomona, California, Richard was welcomed into the world by his devoted mother, Stacey, whose warmth and generosity shaped the foundation of his life. From her, he inherited his warmth, his compassion, and that unmistakable spark that made him who he was.
Richard grew up in Pomona before moving to Antioch, where he graduated from Antioch High School in 1987. He continued his education at Diablo Valley College and later earned his Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology from California State University, Sacramento. He also became fluent and accredited in American Sign Language, ensuring that “no voice was left unheard.”
Throughout his life, Richard worked in a variety of roles—speech pathologist, K–12 teacher, customer service representative at Bank of the West, and most recently, shipping department manager at Amazon. In every position, he brought kindness, curiosity, and quiet strength.
Richard was widely known for his extraordinary talent and passion for clogging. He performed with renowned troupes, choreographed original works, and taught at conventions and workshops across the country. His artistry, generosity, and mentorship left a lasting imprint on dancers everywhere. His steps live on in every dancer he touched.
Beyond his accomplishments, Richard’s greatest gift was the way he loved. He formed deep, lasting connections with friends, family, and anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. He became “Uncle Richard” to multiple generations, celebrated every milestone with joy, and brought warmth to every room he entered.
In his final months, Richard faced significant health challenges with courage and grace. He was lovingly supported by his long-time friends and adoptive family, Karen Tanney-Webber, Laura Juranek, and Stephanie Bradley, who remained by his side through every step of his journey.
Richard is survived by his adoptive family, Karen Tanney-Webber, Laura Juranek, Kellee Hanzel Ramirez, and Stephanie Bradley; the clogging community; and a wide circle of friends who will carry his memory forward with love.
A celebration of life was held on June 21, 2025. Richard’s cremains will remain with Karen, honoring the lifelong bond they shared.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his artistry, and the light he brought into the lives of all who knew him. To love someone like Richard—and to be loved by him in return—is one of life’s greatest gifts.

Yesterday
Dear Richard, It is hard to believe that it has been a year since you left to go home, and it has been the worst year of my life. While I am very grateful you are no longer sick and suffering, I love and miss you terribly. We had so much more to do. I don’t know how to heal this void in my heart. you are always with me, my brother, my friend, my Richard.
