Rita Wesgan Obituary

Rita A. Wesgan (Radzik)

Rita went home to the Lord peacefully, in her home on January 11, 2024, with family by her side.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, she was the apple of her father’s eye. She was in a family of four - her parents Charles and Mary and her older brother, Charlie. The family home life was religious, always deeply honoring their Catholic faith. When Rita was young, she often could be found in her parents store, Charlie’s Variety, helping out. She also loved being with her sweet mother, Mary. On Saturdays, she could often be found at the local matinee.

After she graduated from Uxbridge High School in 1955, she decided to embark on hairdressing school in Worcester, MA. In order to go to school, she thought she would take the bus. But fate had a different plan. Dale Wesgan was going to Worcester Junior College every day, heard she needed a ride, came to Charlie’s Variety to ask her to join him on his daily commute. After several weeks of him asking her what she liked to do (dancing, movies), he asked her out on a date to go dancing. Romance began to flourish, and Dale was also headed off to Oklahoma State University for 2 years to finish his degree in Electrical Engineering. They were so in love, she told him she would wait for his return post graduation. They then became engaged, he returned to complete his last semester, returning to Massachusetts in May 1959. They were married on June 27, 1959.

Life’s journey led them to a new home in Woburn, started raising a family, family vacations, holidays. In 1975, they moved in to a home Dale built in Carlisle. While there for many years, Rita held many part time jobs, allowing her to learn several skills in the medical field. It was at this time she became a Eucharistic minister and lector.

In 1999, Rita and Dale moved to Florida. They built a home in Leesburg and were enjoying retirement. They were lucky enough to take a trip to Italy and the Vatican before Dale’s passing in December 2007.

In 2008, Rita felt the need to increase her involvement in church. She loved church, and was a lector and Eucharistic minister at Blessed Sacrament and Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine. She finally ‘retired’ in early 2020, after a wonderful 40 year run.

Rita will be remembered for many things, but most notably for her amazing faith, her love for Dale and her perpetual loving care of her special needs son, Kirk.

Rita leaves behind her three children; Eric, Lori and her husband Bob, and Kirk. She also leaves two grandchildren, Mark and Sharleen.

Rita would want, in lieu of flowers, donations made to Duvall Home in Deland, where Kirk leads a wonderful life with his peers.

I’m so very sadden that the world has lost such a wonderful woman. I am the dental hygienist at her dentist office and I have known Rita and also Dale for over 20 years. We shared a lot of stories and memories. She spoke a lot of her children and she loved seeing pictures of my son growing up, he was four months old when I first started treating Rita. The last time I saw her she came in the office to get her teeth cleaned in August and she couldn’t believe my son was 22 years old. I will miss her dearly and my favorite thing that she used to say was . “ to make a long story short..” God bless her and your family. I will never forget she gave me the biggest hug before she left my office that day in August. And I told her don’t worry I will see you again. And she said, yes, I know you will.
