1954 - 2019
Robert Earl Reynolds (Butch), age 65, passed away June 18, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family after a four-year ferocious battle with cancer,
Butch was born May 8, 1954 in Savannah, Ga. to Julie Burts Johnson and Alex Reynolds.
Butch spent his childhood in Savannah GA which he spoke of often with love and fond memories of wonderful grandparents and weeks at the beach. He was the epitome of a true Southern gentleman.
His family moved to Augusta, GA, where he graduated from Butler High School in 1972, He continued his education at Augusta State University, graduating with a BBA in 1979, then a Master’s in Science in 1984 from Georgia State University.
Butch married Mairi Morrison Reynolds July 2005 in Savannah GA. If life and love were a jigsaw puzzle, they both found their missing piece when they met and married each other.
Butch is survived by four children and 6 grandchildren that he loved with a passion and devotion that will continue to bring a smile to their face and warmth in their heart. Son Jake Reynolds (Crystal), daughter Meagan Stanley (Kellen), daughter Catherine Springer (John “Derk”) and daughter Joanne Lepley. A proud Poppa, one of his most favorite titles to Paisley, Danica, Chloe, Ransom, Rhett and Kennah. Other family including his Mother Julie Burts Johnson of Savannah, siblings, Lynne Reynolds Tantanella, Savannah, Michael Reynolds (Andi), Augusta and John L Reynolds (Marci), Richmond Hill and many nieces and nephews that he loved and cherished. Butch was truly a family man.
Butch worked for Cameron and Barkley for over 20 years before venturing out to start his own business with his brother John. RJ Reynolds Construction originated in 2004 building some of the finest homes in Richmond Hill often taking an identity “That’s a home Butch built!” His son Jake will continue his legacy with RJ Reynolds Construction with the same passion his father always had.
Butch served as President of the Home Builders Association of Bryan County in 2013. A title he, as he did with everything, valued and honored giving 100%.
Butch spent over 30 years in a special association where he was given the gift to help change and save lives, something he was truly grateful for.
Butch enjoyed playing tennis for many years along with many other sports and activities. Competitive would be an excellent word to describe him, even though he would say he was just giving it all he had! That’s just how he rolled.
Butch approached life with purpose, a smile and passion. He will be sadly missed by his family and the community. He gave from the heart and expected nothing in return. One of his favorite sayings which will live on “Show me, don’t tell me!”
The family would like to thank Dr. George Negrea of Low Country Cancer Care Associates for his incredible dedication to helping Butch fight his battle from beginning to end; what a wing man! Also Dawn and Diane of Hospice Savannah for their loving care of our beloved husband and father.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the J.C. Lewis Cancer Center.
Visitation Friday June 21st 6-8 p.m. at Richmond Hill Funeral Home.
Memorial Service Saturday June 22nd 1 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with celebration of life immediately following in Holy Family Hall.

It saddens me to hear of the passing of such a wonderful person. Butch was once my brother-in-law and I always had much love and respect for him and his family. He was always smiling and made me feel welcome every time I had the pleasure of being around him.

My first time meeting Butch, He walked into a restaurant I met Mairi at for a quick visit while in town. Of course Mairi was already happy as we hadnt seen each other for quite a while, and as always she makes anyone feel welcome... But when Butch walked in she lit up like a sparkler. I remember leaving there after that visit thinking, yep... thats the guy right there. They complimented each other so well and the respect for each other was so blatantly obvious. Thanks Butch... if nothing else, love was your purpose.

Mairi, loving family and to all who were touched and loved by this wonderful man, my thoughts and prayers will be with you for eternity.
Many years ago in our close little circle of friends, Butch was the kindest and most forgiving of us all. My parents loved Butch like a son and I loved him like a brother. I still do this very day.
I know and feel in my heart the true meaning of friendship and love, when I think back on the times that he and I shared. I will count my blessings forever and ever for having been called a friend by him.
I love you Butch.

What a powerful impact Butch had on me and so many friends as he exemplified in his everyday life what it is to be a man of faith, a person who genuinely cares about his fellows, has a generous heart, and a strong ethic. He was a true north compass of how to live one's life. Butch was a blessing, and I am ever grateful that I got to walk this earth during the time he was passing through. His strength and spirit will stay with us 'til we meet again.

Mauri and family, I am so, so sorry to hear of Butch's passing. He was always a bright light for so many of us, and one of the most kind and humble men I have ever known. He clearly loved his family so much, and his circle of friends was huge. He was adored by many, including me. I am just grateful to have known him and for all of the help he gave me over the years. It was an honor and privilege and a true blessing to have his friendship. My prayers are with you all during this time and in the months and years to come.
