“Doc” was a nickname he was given as a small child and stayed with him all his life. Only a very few were allowed to call him Bobby.
He graduated from Ninevah High School in 1944 and proudly attended almost every reunion including his 75th Reunion this past April, coming straight from the Hospital to attend. He was the oldest living graduate at the time.
He married Virginia Flinn and they had two daughters, Karen and Linda and a son, Paul.
He loved fishing, going to Red Lake, Ontario, Canada every year for over 50 years with his longtime friend Gene Brown. Once in a while the wives got to go and even the kids a few times. Consider yourself “special” if you were invited to go with them. On his bucket list was to fish in Alaska; he went in 2009 and 2011.
He was a very active and dedicated member of the Franklin Elks lodge #1818 for 44 years. Serving as Exalted Ruler four times and as the District Deputy. He was very proud of the support his Lodge gave to the numerous charities. He was made a life member in 2017.
He loved being around his family and friends and usually had a good joke for the occasion. He was first to volunteer to help anyone and had a positive outlook on life. He enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ida Tharp, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mildred Tharp, brother and sister-in-law, Noble and Dorothy Tharp, sister, Kathleen Tharp, sister, Beulah Baker, and nephew, Ron Tharp. His wife, Virginia Flinn Tharp.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Matthew Porter of California, daughter and son-in-law, Linda Herr and George Sheffield of Texas, and son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Lynn Tharp of Idaho. Grandson, Rob Tharp and, great-grand-daughters, Katelynn and Alyssa Tharp and great-grand-son, Jason Tharp of Idaho, and grandson, Matt Tharp of Texas.
