Robert Eizen Obituary

Robert Franklin “Rusty” Eizen was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 13, 1939, to Israel and Elizabeth Eizen.

His father worked in sales, and his mother stayed at home, raising Rusty (named for his bright red hair), and his two younger brothers, Mel and Bert.

Rusty graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit and enlisted in the United States Air Force as an airman and electronics technician. He was honorably discharged as an Airman 1st and returned to Detroit where he became a UAW Electrician at the Ford Rouge Complex.

From high school through most of his time at Ford, he was active in the Civil Air Patrol (United States Air Force Auxiliary), reaching the rank of major. He stopped being active in the CAP after a serious car accident which required extended bed rest and convalescence. During his recovery, his niece Penny Encheff cared for him, and he appreciated her greatly.

Rusty was a licensed student pilot; a Technician Class amateur radio operator, N8RGI; an avid fan and advocate of the Amiga Computer system; and an avid fan of Star Trek and science fiction in general.

Rusty liked to say that he had a “pundimental” view on life, and was always quick with a quip or a pun.

He was an “uncle by choice” to the Boyke girls, Lizzy, Katie, and Laura, and spent many weekends traveling to locations around Detroit, Michigan, and in Ohio with the girls and their parents, Bill and Carol Boyke.

He will be missed.

Funeral service will be Friday; November 4th, 7:00 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave.  Visitation will be Friday 4-8 p.m.  Inurnment with Airforce Honors will be conducted at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Monday, May 22nd, 1:00p.m.
