Mr. Robert David Givens Jr., affectionately known as “PICTURE MAN” was born on July 26, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the loving union of the late Mr. Robert Givens Sr. and Mrs. Willie Odessa Givens. He was called home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2026. Robert was married to Regina Matherson Givens on November 23, 1970, and together they shared 56 years of marriage. From that union, four children were born: Robert David Givens III, Tanya Givens-LeBlanc, D’Wayne Anthony Givens, and Ronald Tyrone Givens.
Robert was a proud United States Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient, faithfully serving his country with honor, courage, and integrity. He was a graduate of Walter L. Cohen High School, Robert was deeply rooted in faith, culture, and community. He was a devoted member of Blessed Trinity Church, where his faith guided his life of service and gratitude. He had a God-given gift for capturing life through photography, preserving moments that reflected love, joy, and togetherness. He admired and deeply respected the culture of the Mardi Gras Indians and New Orleans second lines, where he could be found every Sunday, celebrating music, movement, and tradition as expressions of joy, praise, and heritage. Robert dedicated 42 years of faithful service as a Postal Clerk with the United States Postal Service, serving the community with diligence, reliability, and pride.
Robert lived a life of service, faith, gratitude, and cultural appreciation. Though he is no longer with us in body, we trust God’s promise that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. His memory, his love, and the images he captured will continue to tell his story and live on in our hearts forever.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 4230 S. Broad St., New Orleans, LA, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 10:00 am. Visitation begins at 9:00 am. Interment: Providence Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Dennis Funeral Home, 1812 Louisiana Ave., New Orleans, LA.
The family of Robert David Givens, Jr. sincerely thanks all relatives, friends, church family, and loved ones for your prayers, acts of kindness, and expressions of love during this time of bereavement. Your support has strengthened us and brought us comfort. May God bless each of you for every word, gesture, and deed of compassion shown to our family.
