Robert James Kempston

1945 - 2023

Robert James Kempston, 77, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Charles George V.A. Medical Center in Asheville, NC. Born in Buffalo, NY on December 31, 1945, he was the son of the late Elton Richard Kempston and Augusta Angelina Kruse Kempston. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mary McCoy Kempstonand his half-brother Lester Kempston. 

Robert is survived by his half-brother Paul Richter and cousins Larry and Susan (Sue) Zilliox, Ken and Sandy Radder, and Carol and Jerry Nourse, as well as, five step daughters Brenda Haddix Horne and husband Phillip Horne of Sneads Ferry North Carolina, Linda Haddix Bookout and husband Troy Bookout of Loxley Alabama, Mary Haddix Greathouse and husband Thomas Greathouse of Bridgeport West Virginia, Jennifer Haddix Malcolm and husband Eric Malcom of Fairmont West Virginia, Roberta Haddix Carpenter and husband Jeffrey Carpenter of Belington West Virginia. Also left to cherish his memory is his eight step grandchildren, Nicole Horne Lyton-Edwards, Andrew Malcolm, Michele Horne Waller, Jorey Carpenter, Matthew Cather, Aaron Malcom, Emily Cather and Jaxon Carpenter

A celebration of life will be held from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday, June 26, 2023 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with a committal service beginning at 6:00 PM.
