Robert's Obituary

Robert A. Simons 85, of Harford, PA passed away on Wednesday December 31,2025 at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility in Scranton, PA. He was born in Harford PA, on November 5, 1940 to the late Rush and Jennie (Wolfe) Simons.

Robert  is survived by daughter, Jenny (Dan) Frantz of Scranton, PA; son, William (Jocelyn) Simons, and family, of Glenwood, PA; granddaughter, Kailey (Dakota) Hiller of Jacksonville, NC; great-grandson, Wyatt Hiller; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Ivie Simons of Harford, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Dorothy Simons in August of 2026 and his brother Richard William Simons.

After graduation from the Harford School Bob joined the Pennsylvania National Guard where he served. When he returned to Harford he continued his work as a farmer.

Bob was a long-time figure in the Harford community. He was employed by Harford township for over 30 years, held Road Supervisor position, and was a Township Supervisor.  He also served his community in the Harford Volunteer Fire Company as the head of the fire police. He is a lifetime member of the fire company. He also was the town cop. He got the nickname from some of the kids as  “Rosco”  from the era of the Dukes of Hazard.

Anyone who knew Bob knew he loved to coach. He coached numerous little league teams before he had kids of his own. When his kids grew up, he coached them in every sport they played. Just like his dad did for him. He was also the girls' basketball coach at Mountain View High School like his father. He made sure that the Rush Simons Award for Outstanding Male and Female athlete was given every year. His family will carry on that tradition for as long as they can. He was so proud that his daughter won the award in 1995.  He was also a huge New York Yankee fan.

He also had a love for farming. He raised Jersey and Ayrshire cattle. He won numerous awards with these cows. His favorite was a black jersey named “Blacky”. Bob showed at the Harford fair starting when he was very young. When he got older, he became the head of security at the fair and Poultry Supernatant with Cecil Rose. He never missed a fair. He won the Cecil Rose Best of Show award, which he treasured to this day. He loved getting kids involved in showing chickens. He made sure that they all got an award for showing at the Harford Fair.  He passed down his love for showing chickens to his daughter and great granddaughter who both became involved with showing and later became superintendents with him of the poultry department. People came into the poultry building just to see him and talk about the birds. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service for Robert will be held at the Harford Fire Hall Fair Hill Road, Harford Pa 18823 on  February 7,2026 from 2-4 p.m., with a funeral service following.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Harford Volunteer Fire Company 142 Fair Hill Road, Harford Pa 18823 or Harford Congregational Church 5016 Creek Road, Harford Pa18823.
