Robert Wellington Obituary

Chicopee- Robert S. Wellington, 60, formerly of Chicopee, passed away on November 11, 2025, at the E. Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center, surrounded by his family after a year-long battle with cancer.  A son of the late Lillian J. (Wright) and Larry K. Wellington, Sr., he was born in San Diego, CA, Robert moved to Massachusetts with his family in the late 1970s.  A proud US Army Veteran, Robert honorably served his country in the 1990s and was deployed to Egypt, on the Sinai Peninsula, overlooking the Red Sea.  After his time in the Army, Robert worked locally in construction and machining.  Robert will be deeply missed by his sister, Lauri J. Barrows (Paul), of Belchertown, his brother Kevin L. Wellington (Margaret), of Monson, and his mother’s companion of 40 years, Dennis E. Harkins, of Springfield.  He also leaves to cherish his memory many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, who adored their Uncle Rob, often saying he was the “fun uncle” to hang around with.  He also leaves many dear friends from Chicopee.  In addition to his parents, Robert was also predeceased by a brother, Larry K. Wellington, Jr., his beloved niece, Melissa A. Lillis and his great-niece, Dakota.  Friends and family are invited to attend a committal complete service at 3:00pm on Friday, December 26, 2025 at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA.

My deepest sympathy to Rob's family at this time. Rob was my Dad's neighbor in the Chicopee Chapin Soldier On housing. He welcomed my Dad to the building with open arms, and always told my dad he would look out for him! And that he surely did! It made me feel comfortable that my dad had a real true friend there. So over the years, we shared so much laughter, and grief at times, we seemed like family. Rob always enjoyed Atkins Lemon meringue pie, homemade blueberry muffins and so many sweet treats we would share, always answering the door with a big huge smile! Our friend Rob, you are so missed at the building already, it doesn't seem possible that you are no longer there. So as you watch over all of us, we hope to keep you entertained, and each time we enjoy a sweet treat we will include a bite for you! Rest in peace our friend! You will never be forgotten!
