Roger Samuelson Obituary

Roger Freeman Samuelson, 71, went home to the Lord on Saturday, June 16
surrounded by his family. Roger passionately loved his Lord Jesus Christ, followed closely by his beloved family. It is his faith in Jesus that has now been made sight. Yet while he rejoices in the presence of God, his family mourns the deep hole brought by his absence. Their great abiding hope is the reunion one day together with Roger in Heaven.
Roger was born Nov. 29, 1940, in Cushing, Iowa, the son of Paul and Wanda (Volkert) Samuelson.
Roger was a longtime Woodruff resident and business owner (Corner Auto Repair). He served 6 years in the National Guard. Roger was a master mechanic who studied his craft for nearly 60 years. He was also a long-serving member of the Gideon's.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of many years Kathryn (Wallace) Samuelson. He is also survived by his children: James & Marcia Samuelson and their 2 daughters (Nicole, Andrea), of Newburyport, MA; David Samuelson, of Fargo, North Dakota; Garrett & Andrea Novak and their 7 children (Amanda, Jesse, Gabby, Jonah, Kathryn, Nathan, Caleb), of Culpepper, Virginia; Jason & Laurie Novak and their 3 children (Ben, Elizabeth, Gilbert), of Waupaca, Wisconsin; Matthew Novak and his 3 children (Mikaila, Miranda, Gunnar), of North Carolina ; Michael & Katie Hawke and their son (Odin), of Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin. Further survived by his parents, Paul & Wanda Samuelson of Aurelia, IA and Sister, Shari of Phoenix, AZ and mother-in-law, Stella Wallace of Onalaska, WI and Sisters-in-law, Susan Wise, Lucille Pohl and Randine Mitrovic all of Onalaska, WI and by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Gary and Ronnie Samuelson and father-in-law, Anton Wallace.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, 11 a.m., at Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 1025 Margaret St., Woodruff, followed by a reception at the funeral home.

I discovered the last time I saw Roger that he had given his life to Christ. What a blessing to know that he is with the Lord. Saved though faith in Jesus. Redeemed by Christ's sacrifice on the cross. I thank God for Roger and God's grace and love for him.

My wife, Marianna and I wish to express our sincere sympathy for Roger's passing. We retired to the Northwoods in 1995 and soon after experienced a severe problem with our Chevy truck. A mechanic at Sedlak told us we need a new transmission at $1700.00. A friend told us to get a second quote from Corner Auto. Roger made the necessary repair for less than $400.00. Henceforth we had all work done by Roger until he closed Corner Auto. Roger had that rare combination of absolute honesty and exceptional knowledge in his field. I am sure he will be missed by all that knew him.

When God brought Roger Samuelson into our lives, He brought us a thoughtful, caring, soft-spoken, vibrant man, who loved the Lord and his family with a steadfast love! God brought my sister, Kate, a partner and a best friend; the boys, an awesome Dad and role model; his grandchildren, a loving grandpa who loved to have the kids around to brighten his days; myself, my husband, my sisters and their husbands, a brother and a great friend; all the nieces and nephews were given an uncle beyond compare; and the people who met Roger were treated to a kind and caring man of God who was not afraid to witness to everyone and help them find their way to eternal life. Roger will be missed by everyone who new and loved him and has left an empty space in our lives that no one else will be able to fill!! My favorite memory of Roger is how much he loved my sister and the great times we all had when we were together doing anything or nothing, it didn't matter, because we would be talking and laughing and just enjoying each other's company! It is so sad to say goodbye to this man that we loved, but like he whispered to me the last time I saw him, “I'll be seeing you in Heaven!” Our hearts and love go out to my sister, Kate, and all the boys who called him “Dad” and all the kids who called him “Grandpa” and to everyone who loved and cared for the wonderful man that we knew as Roger!! We are adding one of our favorite pictures and Pete and I will always remember you this way, Roger! We loved you and will miss you until we meet again!!

I was saddened to hear about Roger losing his battle with cancer, which has taken so many in our family. Roger was my cousin who I spent time with at our annual family reunions before he moved out of Iowa. Those were the days when we played baseball, badmitten, lit firecrackers, raided Grandpa's cellar for beverages of all kinds, and had lots of good food, especially desserts! I was good friends with Shari so I spent time at their house whenever I could. I remember him as a gentle man with a curious mind - always thinking. He could talk your ear off when he got on a roll about something. lol
Our sincerest sympathies to the family.
