Roger Q. Mills Wilson Jr. was born on July 21, 1951, to Hannis (Wheat) and Roger Q. Mills Wilson Sr. Roger grew up in Abilene, Texas. He joined the Air Force in May of 1970. Shortly after he met the love of his life, Vickie Donham and they were married on April 8, 1978. After his military service, Roger attended Cisco Jr College and worked in the oil industry for Permian Oil Company. On May 1, 1980, Roger and Vickie welcomed their only child, Amanda. A few years later Roger went on to own and operate a skating rink with Vickie, become full time RV hosts in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and owned an RV park in Burkburnett. Roger volunteered to play Sam Burk Burnett at the Little Red School House for the 3rd grade classes for several years. He then retired with his favorite title ever Pawpaw to Mikey, Logan, and Ashlynn.
Roger loved his time watching Logan practice his Esports games and watching Ashlynn in her cheerleading doing all of her stunts and flips, play volleyball, and he was proud of her for breaking the school record time running 100M hurdles for track. He also really enjoyed visiting and catching up with Mikey and his girlfriend Adreana as they would come by to visit. Roger lived with Amanda and her family up until his passing. It made him very happy getting to interact with his grandchildren, daughter, and son in law on a daily basis. If you knew Roger, he loved to talk and socialize. He was fortunate to have Visiting Angels caregivers to assist him daily and he was able to tell stories, and visit with them. On New Year’s Eve the Lord called him home while sleeping peacefully.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Amanda Alpers and her husband, Michael Alpers of Burkburnett; his grandson, Mike Alpers and his girlfriend, Adreana Ibarra; his grandson, Logan Alpers; and his granddaughter, Ashlynn Alpers from his immediate family. Roger is also survived by his sister, Gaynell Meissner, and many beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Roger is preceded in death by his wife Vickie of 46 years. He is also preceded by his parents Roger Q Mills Wilson Sr. and Hannis Wilson; five older brothers- Samuel, Jimmy, Terry, John, and Rufus; and one older sister, Joann.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 5pm at Owen’s and Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett, Texas with Pastor Joe Coombes, officiating. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at the Burkburnett Community Center.

I joined Roger Jr's family when I married Terry. Roger was 9 yrs old that year and I had the pleasure of watching him grow into a fine young man. He was very personable and very entertaining. He reminded me so much of Roger Sr in those ways. I enjoyed watching him become the man he was. So much like his dad even down to the cowboy hat.

Uncle Roger was a big cut up and loved to talk (just like Papa) and he was Granny's baby. I always remember him being called by his nicknames "punk" and "poodle" rarely ever Roger and I would imagine those are being bantered around heaven right now. On Anson Ave he always had a horse in the corral out back and loved showing off his riding skills to his nephews and nieces. When I think of him I mainly remember him in the early '70s wearing his long sleeved American flag t-shirt and blue tinted glasses. I also remember going to see him at Lakeland Air Force Base and him showing off his marching skills for us. How proud he was of his Stingray Corvette and the story of he and Vickie falling in love as they danced to the song "Amanda". It's funny how time gets away, but still feels like yesterday. The Wilsons always loved a good party and I imagine there's one heck of a party going on right now and I can just hear Papa and Uncle Roger trying to out talk each other telling stories. I can almost imagine God looking over and shushing them to "settle down some", because their being too loud. That never stopped a Wilson from a good time. I will always remember those good times at Papa and Granny's and look forward to my chance to join that party again.
