Ronald Alan Chaney, Jr. was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on March 26, 1984 to Ronald Alan and Lynn Renee (Wills) Chaney.
Ronald Jr., affectionately known by family and friends as “Lil Ron” accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at a very young age. He was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church in Fairmont under the pastorate of Rev. Wesley Q. Dobbs. As an active church member, Lil Ron sang with the children’s choir, God’s Angels. He attended Sunday school regularly and performed in plays; and, he grew in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
During his elementary and Middle school years, he attended St. Peter St. Paul Catholic School in Monongah, Dunbar and Miller Schools; and, in high school, he attended Fairmont High, where he played football. He loved sports and also played with the Barrackville Bisons.
Ron passionately loved reading and was an excellent public speaker. He loved his family as much as he loved the Lord. Everyone loved him because he always had a smile and had a great sense of humor. Children especially loved him as much as he loved them.
Lil Ron suddenly departed this earthly home and moved on to his eternal home on April 30, 2019.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his mother, Deaconess Lynn Renee Chaney; his sisters: Ashley Chaney (fiancé, Walter Colley Jr.); and Elicia Chaney Andrews (Craig) of Charlotte, NC. He leaves a brother, Merlin Chaney (Nilsa) of Charlotte, NC. He leaves three nephews: Elijah, Josiah, and Trey; an uncle, Cornelius Chaney (fiancée, Charlotte Sumlin) and five aunts: Wyonia Stevens of Fairmont; Geraldine Johnson and Lorraine Russell of St. Louis; Jessiemae Colfield of California; Carol Chaney and Mary E. Moore, both of Fairmont . Left behind are a host of other relatives—cousins and long-time friends.
Ronald Alan Chaney, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Deacon Ronald Chaney, Sr. and his grandparents: Lorraine and Jessie Wills and Leondus and Viola Chaney.
The family will receive friends at Morning Star Baptist Church, 100 McKinney Street in Fairmont, on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. He will lie in state at the church on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wesley Dobbs officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
