Ronald Renz Obituary

Ronald James Renz, 85, died unexpectedly December 3, 2024, at his home. He was born on September 28, 1939, in New Braunfels, TX, the son of Herman and Mary A. (Moeller) Renz. Ron graduated from New Braunfels High School, Class of 1958, where he was the Unicorn Quarterback (and wouldn’t you know it, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Bishop, who was the Unicorn Head Cheerleader). They were married in 1961 and just celebrated their 63rd anniversary on September 16, 2024.

Ron graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  Following graduation, he was employed by Celanese Chemical Plant (1963–1967, Bishop, TX). From there he was employed by South Hampton Oil Company (1967-1985, Silsbee, TX), Southland Oil Company (1985-2003, Jackson, MS), and Trigeant Petroleum Company (2004– 2011, Corpus Christi, TX) before retiring at age 72. He was in the Oil and Gas Industry for over 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his youngest son and middle child, Charles (Chuck) Winston Renz, and niece, Lisa Renz.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mary Ann Renz, are his children: son Paul Carlton Renz and his wife, Kathy Renz, Missouri City, TX; and daughter Dawn Noelle Renz Miller, LaVergne, TN. Three grandchildren: Tyler David, Alina Ann, and Sullivan (Sully) James Miller; and two great grandchildren: Luca Phoenix and Isla Renz Menbreno Miller, all from LaVergne, TN. One brother, Robert M. Renz, and his daughter, Jessica Renz Huber, both from Austin, TX.  One sister-in-law, Jan Butler, and her daughters, Lonna Beck and Lisa Kinlin, all from New Braunfels, TX.

Ron was a loyal member of the Texas Exes. His favorite past-time was playing golf and watching the Texas Longhorns. While living in Silsbee, his favorite life escape was enjoying summer weekends at Sam Rayburn Reservoir water skiing, fishing, and grilling.

We are so glad he got to enjoy the revival of the Rival Texas Showdown: Texas Longhorns vs the Texas Fighting Aggies. It was a blessing for him to have enjoyed watching the Longhorns football season, despite the fact that he did not agree with the SEC move (OR Matthew McConaughy on the sidelines of the field). But YOU should have seen him cheering them on, HOOK’EM HORNS!!!!!!!!
