Roy Joe Akins, Jr., 50, of Texarkana, AR, died Monday, January 3, 2011, in a local hospital. He was born April 14, 1960, in Fresno, CA. He was a logger, an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of North Heights Pentecostal Church of God.

He is survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law, Cathy and Ronnie Roberts, Nona McCommas, and Connie Alton; two nieces, Melissa Gatlin and Jennifer Harvey; one nephew, Clint Alton; two great-nieces, Jade Fite and Jordan Gatlin; one great-nephew, Jacob Alton; and a number of other relatives including a special aunt, Pearl Akins and three special cousins, Mark Akins, Billy Akins, and Sandy Akins.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 6, 2011, at North Heights Pentecostal Church of God with the Rev. Robbie Jansen officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends at the home of Nona McCommas following the memorial service.
