“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Ryan Douglas Polk, Jr., affectionately known as “Poppy”, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the age of 23, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was born on October 31, 2000, in New Iberia, LA to Ryan Douglas Polk, Sr. and Robin Peter Polk.
Poppy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized at St. Mark Baptist Church in Jeanerette, LA under the leadership of Pastor Eric Fondal, Sr. Poppy was an active participant in the youth programs at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in New Iberia, LA. Ryan attended New Iberia Senior High where he graduated with honors on May 16, 2019.
Though his journey through life was short, Poppy was blessed with a loving family and cherished friends. His heart filled with joy knowing he was going to be a father. The birth of his little princess, Mila Rae, was the proudest moment of his life. His precious baby girl was the apple of his eye, and he was the definitely the apple of her eye. He had her spoiled.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Poppy developed a passion for baseball. From tee-ball, varsity baseball, and softball, he gave his all and he left it all on the field. Poppy’s skills, talent, and love for the game awarded him the opportunity to play travel baseball, playing just about every weekend (locally, out-of-town, and out-of-state). Beginning his freshman year, he was selected to play for NISH. He remained on the school’s team until he graduated. As an adult, his love for the game continued. So much so, that he began playing softball. In addition to the enjoyment he possessed for baseball, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to cook...experimenting with different flavors, making his dishes exceptional. Poppy loved dogs, thus acquiring and LLC under the name of Bandzz Up Kennels.
Poppy’s life will forever live in the hearts of his daughter, Mila Rae Polk of New Iberia, LA; his mother, Robin C. Peter of New Iberia, LA; his father, Ryan D. (Tammyica) Polk, Sr. of New Iberia, LA; his siblings, Rynika P. (Isiah) Edwards of St. Martinville, LA; Ry’Anna D. Polk (Lellande) of New Iberia, LA; Courtney R. Fontenette of Lafayette, LA Chimyra Singleton, Kayla S. (Westley) Clement and Tyson (Tracey) Shello all of New Iberia, LA; his paternal grandmothers, Gloria H. Polk and Gloria B.
