Grandpop, there aren't enough words to say just how much you meant to me. I never corrected Ms. Alberta when she would say, "I'm going to let you talk to your dad" because in so many ways you were like a father to me. Your devotion, determination, drive, and energy have been a lamp to my feet and will forever be stamped in my heart. I wish that I could be there, but I know that you are watching over me. I will miss your voice. I thank you for the unconditional pouring of the love you carried....

Sammie McNeil, Sr. "Sarge" age 89 of Bear, Delaware departed this life on May 19, 2015 at The Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center.Sammie was born in Wilson, North Carolina to the late John D. McNeil and Sallie Dupree McNeil and was a graduate of Darden High School in Wilson, NC.Sammie was a member of St. Matthew AME Church in Philadelphia where he was a trustee and a steward.Before his retirement, Sammie worked in United States Government Services for many years and was a World War II army veteran .Sammie was a life member of Mt. Hebron Lodge #42 F&AM in Wilson North Carolina.Widower of Alberta Jane Burgin McNeil, Sammie was also pre-deceased by a granddaughter Cheryl Williams, 3 brothers Thurman McNeil, John McNeil Jr., and Robert McNeil.Fond memories will last forever in the hearts of his children: Hannelore Bryant, Harold Williams {Lynne}, Ellen McNeil-Bradley, Sammie McNeil Jr., and Kerry Cottrell {Samuel}, long time companion Alberta Short, 1 brother Luther Edward McNeil, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, Tracy Pinkett who was life a daughter to Mr. McNeil, many other relatives and friends.Service: Friday May 29, 2015 11:00am at St. Matthew AME Church 231 S. 57th Street Philadelphia, Pa. 19139.Viewing: 9:00 am – 11:00 am.
